I know these bikes call for a factory 180 width tire....180/55/17......I found a size 190/55/17 and was wondering if it would fit my 02 FZ1.....The 180 is tight....got my doubts.....any help appreciated

Man I hate that; found a hell of a deal on one....went out and looked at my 02 fz1 and the 180 looks about as wide as the gen 1 will handle.....just wanted to make sure...thanks...

I'm in the market for tires as well for my '03.

The local shop has BT-016's for $130 (rear) and BT-023's for $140 (rear)

They also have a sale on the Power 2CT's but the new road tires are nearly at MSRP (which I'm surprised anyone pays full retail on tires...it's always so stupid expensive)

yeah. it'll fit... it won't handle right.... the tire will deform on the rim.... but it'll fit.

Gen I rear wheel 17"x5.5" --> 180/55/17 tire

Gen II rear wheel 17"x6.0" -->> 190/50/17 tire

As Aaron said the 190 will fit on the 5.5" wheel, but the profile wont be right so why bother...

Jake Wilson does have some very good prices.. I got a set of tires for my Gen II for $222.97 free frieght. I couldn't beat that anywhere, even the places I normally go for tires.

u guys must get dif compounds or something, bridgies we get here seem to do nothing but slide lol, not that it isn't a bad thing at times lol. damn they are cheap too

I changed the tire together with the wheel. Now the Gen1 is with 6" wheel and 190/50/17 tire - Michelin Pilot Power. Some mods are needed, though, to make such an upgrade.

Here is a rear wheel from R1 (2001 but I am not sure) mounted on 2003 Fz1. The tire is 190/50/17 Michelin Pilot Power:

Because I wanted to keep the original rear brake caliper and rear brake disk, I had to order a custom break disk to fit the wheel bolt pattern (different with R1) and keep the FZ1 diameter. The other problem was that the R1 wheel being wider in general, has a different offset and is much narrower at the hub-axle area compared to the FZ1 wheel. To fit the R1 wheel two mods are necessary - (a) a spacer sleeve (conical) between the brake caliper stand and the wheel hub and (b) a spacer flange between the wheel and the custom brake disk. The sleeve is made from G60 steel and the flange from dur-aluminum.

And voala, you've got a 6" inch wheel with a 190 tire on Gen 1. :)

I am going to stay with the 180 5/5....just not that motivated...lol...Got to admit it looks extremely nice....love that bigger tire....Did you raise the front up with it..? Probably don't need it....would like to see a side angle of the bike...I may get motivated......

The front stays the same.

Here are some angle pics for you:
