1993 gsx-r 600

So here is the situation. I got the airbox on. I don't have the filter or the back of the box on right now as that is in the mail.

However I just drove it around the block and even just sitting at idle if I want to rev it it will either not want to go past 4K or on the way down it does not want to come back down past 4k. It will hang there for a while then eventually come back down to 1200 where I have it idling. Not sure if that is because the airbox is wide open or not.

However, as far as the fan is concerned it does run. There was a write up on how to override the fan switch. Basically you put it on a toggle but the bike still controls it. The switch just allows you to turn on the fan earlier as for some reason they come on very late and usually it takes a long time to cool the bike down. So that way if you do come up to traffic you can just kick the fan on early. SO my fan works. haha

Headlights I will be dealing with another day. I do know I am getting no voltage at the lights, so I just have to figure out where the break in a wire is or whatever is wrong.

Lots of progress just have not updated in a few.

Ok in the order I have done stuff.

Got my chain guard in the mail and installed that.

Waiting on something from eBay to sell for me then I can order the 27 dollar 2007 750 rear shock. Man they are a nice cheap upgrade!

Put a new front tire on my FZ1. I took that front tire and put it on the 600. I bought a new rear for the 600. So I have a Pilot Power rear and a Pilot Power 2CT front. The front has about 1500 miles left in it, so I did not want to waste it.

Got the rest of the airbox in the mail, so I got that installed. OMG what a PITA these airbox's are. So dumb.

As far as how it is running, it is a lot better now. But it still hangs a little at 3-4K so I richened up the pilot screws 1/2 turn so they are now at 2 turns out. That seemed to help a lot. It still all comes down to where my idle speed is. If I leave the idle at say 12-1300 it will hang at 3k on the way down and from idle it will take off smooth. If I have the idle at like 800, the rpm's do not hang at all and come right to idle. The problem with that is the idle is too low and if you hit the gas too fast it just bogs and almost stalls. However where I have it right now IS drivable so I am going to leave it until I get a couple tanks of gas through it and I am going to also hit it with seafoam.

My cooling fan was having issues, so I did the fan override switch mod and that works great. Eventually I will be buying the inside panels that go in-between the outside fairings and the frame of the bike. I will mount the toggle on one of those. I have it taped to the gauges currently as a temporary solution.

My headlights did not want to work. The wires that power the headlights were dead throughout the entire bike. It was not fuses. I honestly have no idea what it was. Everything else was functional. The wiring harness was a hacked disaster. It was about 3 feet long and just zip tied to the brake line split block under the lower triple tree. I basically cut the entire harness above all those purple connectiors, and just wired into everything that is supposed to be there on my own. The plugs that go to the headlights were melted so I bought new ones at Napa. End resut is I had to run my own wiring harness for the headlights, so I just ran a 30A relay off switched ignition. Currently only have low beams. When I have a lot more time I am going to run another relay setup, and use the normal headlight switch as the switch to toggle between Hi and Lo beams. That way it will work as factory but use my wiring.

Yesterday I started getting body panels installed and whatnot. I have the windscreen and mirrors installed, the knee panels, and the tail installed. Today I am doing an oil change and then installing the side panels. Also doing new rear blinkers, and a couple small odds and ends after work.

Hoping to get it registered in a few days then I can drive it.

Also, as you can see the seat is a mess. It was I guess pink and then spray painted black at some point. I am goign to have DirtRoad do them over for me in the event I actually like this bike.

Got the rest of the panels attached. Everything is installed and it is running pretty decent. Actually other than a slight hang at 3K she runs fantastic. I pulled it to 13K and got it up to about 110... She is WAY over geared. I did not notice how large the rear sprocket was but IIRC it is 52 teeth. WAY huge. Doing 8K at 70MPH. If I keep the bike I am going to have to drop like 6 or more teeth off the rear sprocket.

I personally hate this seating position though. It is KILLING me. I did put about 50 miles on it today though, rides and handles nicely. I am getting really really good at this whole tire balancing thing LOL! Wore in the rear tire by driving the thing about 50% harder than I should have right out of the gate and removing the greasy shit on them.

Pics. The dude who has the Aprillia is my best bud, he is the one I got this bike from. He also owns the Busa that I drove on Sunday. So today I drove the Ape for a little while he reminisced on that bike.

I gotta get some better pics.. She doesn't look half bad though. Still needs some more TLC but I have done enough in the last 3 weeks to keep me happy for a little anyways.

Yes the seats were pink then spray painted black. IF I keep this Dirtroad is going to redo them for me :)

i had the same problem with it hanging around 4000 on my bandit, it turned out the coils were going bad, just enough to keep it running but not well so i had to keep the idle artificially high. at least thats what i think :) just something to ponder

Basically I hate it, so not going to paint. I have it on Craigslist. If I can get 1800 for it im selling it. This thing really kills my back.

Was a good learning experiance though.

At least you got to experience a full-on sportbike riding position. Mind you, I always found those old sportbikes were more comfortable than the current breed of supersports--those are cramped!

Well I know for sure now that anything other than the FZ1 is basically not going to work for me. If I want anything with power it is just going to have to be a ZX14 or Busa with some bar risers.

Flying through the corners with this thing though, man I totally understand the seating position. You can so easily latch onto these style bikes with your legs. You can basically hang off the side of them with no effort. Very weird feeling.

Still don't like it though. Got it on craigslist and talking to a few people who are interested in it. Using whatever profit I make on this to pay for a full system and PC3 for my bike :)

So a dude came and looked at it yesterday, he liked it. I had the add for 1600 firm, he is cool with the price. He is "supposedly" coming to buy it tomrorow.

We shall see. If so the profit I made on this just paid for my full system and PC3. So was well worth the effort. And I got to really drive a sport bike. Now I know they are not for me!

:)

And sold! I am pretty relieved.

Edit:

Did the math wrong, from the sale of the bike I made 600. I "Should" make a good 150-200 on the rest of the parts I have. So that means 750-800 total. THAT is worth my time.
