I have been riding FZ1S for 7 years and I've also ridden the GSX-S1000 (naked) and the MT09/FZ09. Like others have said, the FZ1S is a superb sports tourer that has good handling, is fairly light, and has more than enough power for the twisties. The motor in the GSX-S1000 is a peach, although...
Yes, that's right, I wait until the warning light then make sure I fill up in about 20kms. The FZ1S would go to about 240kms before it started flashing on empty, the MT10 starts flashing on empty around 180kms. Currently getting 7.42l per 100kms on the MT10 (in the ball park of your figures...
My FZ10/MT10 is in for it's first service this week, and I am absolutely loving the bike. Only negative for me is the fuel range, 200kms before fill ups v 260kms for my FZ1S. Have also ridden in the dark now and I needn't have worried about it only having the single light on a dipped beam, it...
My 2009 FZ1S was modded, full system, power commander, airbox, etc, but I kept my 2012 FZ1S completely stock as far as the engine goes. The MT10 is wayyyyy faster than both. Take one for a test ride and you will just have to get one like me...that cross plane engine, it's just phenomenal :-)...
Traded my 2012 FZ1S for an MT10 last week. Quick review:
Pros:
The engine is just phenomenal. It just pulls in every gear and sounds fantastic, even with the stock pipe.
With all the electronic wizardry it really makes the FZ1 look like an antique. Traction control, slipper clutch, ABS and...
Picked up my MT10 today :-) Will try and get some K's on it tomorrowand post a review but just the ride home from the dealer's left me grinning like a Cheshire cat :-)
Had my FZ1S from new (Apr 2013) and just clocked over 30,000 kms, so about 10k a year. Commute on dry days 40 kms each way, weekend rides and at least one bike trip a year of 1000 kms +. Previous bike was a 2009 FZ1S and did 38,000 kms in 4 years :-)
I have one of these on my 2012 FZ1 in Oz and can confirm they are an excellent seat. Did a 1200km weekend trip last year and doing the same in 2 weeks...would have been crippled had I been on the stock seat.
Good luck with the sale mate :-)
Just back from taking the GSX-S1000 naked out for a spin...I can confirm the bike is bloody awesome!!!
I had a 2008 FZ1S for 4 years which I heavily modded and in 2013 traded it in for a white 2012 FZ1S as at the time there was nothing that did the job as well as the FZ1. Since then I have...
Any taken one of these puppies for a thrash yet?
Look to be a more modern version of the FZ1. Similar power but with traction control, slipper clutch and ABS.
Yep, I'll be heading down to the island on the FZ1 and the missus will be on her new MT07 that I bought for her birthday last week. I'm only 40km west of Melbourne so not too far for us. Riding the Great Ocean Road on the way through would be awesome!
I'm doing the Great Alpine Road at the...
Sorry to hear your bike was stolen but at least you have the cash to go shopping now :-)
For your price range I'd be looking at:
Triumph Speed Triple
KTM 950 Supermoto (regret selling mine, awesome bike!)
Aprilia Tuono
Yamaha MT09
Honda CB1000R
Suzuki B-King
So many choices!
I've been a big Arai fan for the past 20 years as they always seemed to fit my head better but after getting fed up with their side pods breaking and their tricky visor change I tried a Shoei XR1100 for size and found it fitted just as well as my Arai and I am now converted. Easy visor change...
