I'm pretty sure that it offers no added protection in a crash, well I've never herd of a hump offering more protection and since I haven't slid down the road in this jacket yet... touch wood (knocks self on skull) I can't say weather it does or does not. If I was out buying a new jacket today...
I have one jacket with a hump and one with out and I don't notice any difference at all. only time I notice the hump is when I want to wear a back pack... then it's in the way.
I'm a SA boy so went through our local hills around Lobethal and then headed further south just going where ever the roads go, it was a totally awesome day can't wait to head out again... prob Saturday morning before work:flash:

I have a Alpinestar GP pro 2 piece suit, Its a great suit for carving through the hills but no good for the daily commute. For weekend riding I can highly recommend it but you got to get the boots and gloves too, no point spending big on the suit and not protecting your feet and hands.
