What did you do to your FZ today?

Today I went to my local dealer for the 10,000 km service. To my surprise they were having a test drive day, offering some new Yamahas for a spin, so I wasn't bored while waiting the service to be done. At first I took a MT-09 Tracer which was very nice ride, except a nasty turbulence from the...

How important is warming up the engine?

My two cents: 1) Do not rev cold engine; FZ1 will start without twisting the throttle. Immediate reckless revving before the oil pressure comes up could be very harmful. 2) After few seconds you can go immediately, but do not accelerate hard during first mile. The FZ1 engine warms up quite fast.

Noise after key is removed= Drained battery

Radiator fan? If the engine is running hot because of warm weather and slow driving, the radiator fan may continue spinning for a minute even after shutting down the engine. However it should not drain the battery.

    Timing chain noise.

That "clunk" sound when shutting down the engine is very common in almost all motorcycle engines, and it comes from the starter, not from the timing chain. A typical bike starter uses a freewheel mechanism instead of Bendix drive used in car engine starters. Now, when the engine is shut down...

What did you do to your FZ today?

Today I bleeded my rear brake because the grip was weak and had soft feeling in the pedal. I saw several air bubbles coming out, and then some very tiny bubbles which never disappeared completely, so I stopped after a dozen push and then filled the reservoir. The grip improved significantly, but...

    Chain Lube

I had a Scottoiler in my previous Kawa and removed it before trading it in, but haven't installed it into my FZ1 yet. In the meantime I have spread some engine oil into the chain with an old toothbrush, and then wiped off the excess oil with a rag ripped from an old T-shirt.

    fz1 fuel consumption

With my GenII I get 5.6 ltr/100km, that's 42 mpg(US). The F-Trip activates after 230 km and it goes at least 70 km more, but then it's about just the fumes left so I don't dare to try any further. This R1-derived engine has very short stroke and is definitely made for high power, not for low...

    Greetings from Finland

Hi folks, and greetings from a cold place called Finland! I just joined into this forum. I purchased an FZ1-S at last September, and after getting over the winter I started my riding season a week ago. It's a 2012 model, but was unsold until 2014 and was traded in to my local dealer having...
