    Gen II brake light problem

Turns out a number of things had transpired against me, and I'm still not certain I understand precisely what happened, but: The bulb was good - replaced and tested resistance to confirm The switches were both good - checked voltage and resistance, also shorted both switches to simulate a press...

    Gen II brake light problem

I can see that only one filament on th bulb is lit up, not sure which one though. Also not sure if both filaments come on when the brake pedal is pressed, or if the bulb switches to the brighter filament whilst the brakes are applied and then reverts to the less bright one. Knowing that might...

    Gen II brake light problem

Did some small electrical work this weekend and appear to have screwed up my brake light. I'm not sure exactly when the light stopped working, but here's the sequence of events: - Installed dash cams hooked up to a relay which came on with the rear running light (via wire tap into the running...

Gen II sputter, jolt, choke, and stall (with video)

Yes the seat was off when lifting the tank, got maybe 30 degrees or so before the hoses started tuggging. Very difficult to access the air box with that little clearance. When referring to 'flash' is that a reflash of the PCIII, or the ECU? In either case does that allow for the FCE to be removed?

Gen II sputter, jolt, choke, and stall (with video)

Thanks - my first suspects were the FCE or the fuel line. When I lifted the tank I noticed the air box intake hose was loose. I reattached and tightened the clamp, seems to be OK so far. I am tempted to the fuel line mod, especially as my tank won't lift all that much. It's difficult to tell...

Gen II sputter, jolt, choke, and stall (with video)

Hi all Had a strange and concerning fault recently, which I have not been able to replicate on demand. It seems to be almost at random. When riding, the engine will suddenly start to choke, causing the bike to jolt violently. My only remedy is to pull the clutch, after which the bike will...

    Radiator full, expansion tank empty

Hi all I recently took my Gen II to a local repair shop for new tires, and they mentioned that the coolant was low. I thought that was odd since I had checked it recently. Just to be sure, I double checked and I noticed that it is full at the radiator cap (where I had checked it last time)...

    Gen II fan switch

Spade connector did the job, thanks! Jammed it into the relay block and it seems to hold fairly snug. I installed the switch on the tank cover temporarily until I decide exactly where I want it. Thanks again for the replies and the help :-)

    Gen II fan switch

Gah! I took a look and can't seem to get to the ECU without removing the airbox, which seems like overkill. I might have to resort to tapping in to the wire at the relay itself, under the seat. The relay connector has proven to be a real PITA to remove. There is VERY little room to play with...

    Gen II fan switch

I was able to short the grey wire to the battery negative terminal, which caused the fans to come on :-) My only issue is that I wanted to place the switch on the left inner panel, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the grey wire from the fan relay runs to. I've looked at the...

    Gen II fan switch

Ahhhh thank you so much!!! I had found the wiring diagram online also, but couldn't figure how to switch it to trip the relay. Thank you so much for clarifying, and for taking the time and effort to respond. I'll double check the wiring over the weekend and post back if successful or not. Cheers

    Gen II fan switch

Thanks for the pics - definitely a different physical layout to the Gen II (or at least the one I have!). Am I right in thinking of the battery negative terminal as the ground. I still don't get how grounding the coil causes the relay to activate. In my mind, the relay circuit is activated...

    Gen II fan switch

Thanks guys. Ballmead - if the relay coil is low resistance, and has 12v across it, it could draw a fair amount of current causing it to heat up. Smittynsc - the wire you connected to the switch, do you know which terminal on relay it is hooked up to? I don't fully understand how grounding...

    Gen II fan switch

Thanks smittynyc - do you know where the relay is located? I haven't been able to find it at the left side panel where is other's have suggested it should be. Also, I had initially thought I could insert a switch to shunt one of the relay wires to ground, forcing the fan on (as described in the...

    Gen II fan switch

Thanks for the replies all. My definite preference is to install a manual switch. I'm not confident enough in reflashing the ECU, and have a space issue in adding additional relays. Smittynsc - this is exactly what I want to do, I just can't find the right wire that I need to ground....

    Gen II fan switch

My Gen II often reaches 200+ degrees once I exit the freeway and travel a few blocks to my work. Because the fans turn off with the main ignition key, I tend to stay with bike turned until the fan cools the engine enough for the fans to turn off. If the fan was wired hot I guess it wouldn't be a...

    Front Stands

Thanks guys I also read that a socket with the correct outside diameter can also be used to effectively increase the clearance between the stand and the plastics. Although I'm not sure how that would work because I picture the socket just rising up inside the triple tree tube - there is nothing...

    Front Stands

Venom stand catching headlight unit Sorry to dig up an old post, I am finding that my venom front stand is making contact with the bottom of the headlight unit 2006 FZ1 - Gen II). I don't want to lift it all the way in case of cracking the plastics - anyone else have this problem? I am using...

    Electrical help - fuse requirements

Thanks guys. The block I am using is a simple unfused distribution block, but the circuit will be fused when I'm done with it.

    Tapping into starter/ignition relay

Awesome, thanks - any ideas of color coding to tap the correct wire?
