Radiator full, expansion tank empty

Hi all

I recently took my Gen II to a local repair shop for new tires, and they mentioned that the coolant was low. I thought that was odd since I had checked it recently. Just to be sure, I double checked and I noticed that it is full at the radiator cap (where I had checked it last time), but noticed the expansion tank is indeed empty.

Is that something to be concerned about? Any ideas on cause? I'm thinking a clog in a line meaning the expansion tank cannot fill up, which would be a concern if the radiator becomes too pressurised.

My display always reads the coolant at sensible levels, rarely above 200F and never above 215F, so I feel ok that I'm not overheating the engine, at least.

A lot depends on when it was last topped up .. if your having to top it up regularly then you probably have a leak somewhere. ..I would fill to correct level and monitor it for now , it's not unusual to have to top the tank a small amount occasionally

I fill the tank half way between low & high when cold & to the high mark when hot any higher I lose coolant. so fill it to this level and keep a close eye on it
