    FAN OVER RIDE SWITCH

You can put a switch in the side cover to ground the relay. I'll see if I can get a picture.

    spark plug colour

It probably is. Might be just a little bit lean if there's no color at all but you need to look really deep down in the spark plug to get a good reading.

    Gen II fan switch

I took a male Spade terminal and stuck it in the back of the connector. You may have to bend it slightly to make it fit tight.

    Gas Mileage

But you would need to check it. I have seen bikes that the speedometers all read differently but the odometers were surprisingly close.

    Gas Mileage

For fuel mileage you may want to run in a higher gear. My bike is turning 4000 at 60 mph and isn't lugging at all. I usually get around 44 mpg. The fuel mileage is mostly affected (cars, trucks, motorcycles) by hard acceleration, going fast and braking late and idling. It is surprising how high...

    Gen II fan switch

Glad to help. Even though we crossed gen's the info is very similar. This is where my switch is mounted. Out of sight and out of the weather. Rocker switch that mounts through a round hole. EZ install.

    Gen II fan switch

Fan Switch First pic, switch and relay. Second pic, fan relay in place behind left side cover -gen 1. Blue wire goes to fan bottom brown wire is 12v feed for fan top left brown is 12v to relay coil (hot with key) Green wire is coil ground that is controlled by ECM or fan switch...

    Gen II fan switch

On a gen 1.... The relay coil always has power on it (key on) the relay is grounded to activate. A lot of electrical devices are switched this way now (low side switching).

    Gen II fan switch

Exactly. My switch is on the bottom of the left side cover. If you run the wire on the ground side there is no chance of shorting. If the wire was damaged and grounded the fan would just come on. Mine is a gen 1 and it is behind the left cover. I have no idea on a gen 2 but it can't be far...

    Gen II fan switch

Pretty sure there are 4 wires on the relay. Check with a test light and 3 should be hot when the fan is running (supply, fan and relay coil). The only one that doesn't turn on the test light (fan running) should be the ground.

    3 month update for my new-to-me 40k mi 1st gen FZ1

I know we don't want to start an oil thread but I just wonder if the 10/40 is too thin in a hot climate. I am in SC and I run the Valvoline 4T 20/50. No consumption.YMMV

    Gen II fan switch

My only idea requires that you find the fan relay also. I ran a wire (Gen 1) from the relay ground through a switch then to a ground. That way all other circuits are still intact. Also there are no hot wires to ground and cause problems. 1 rocker switch (mounted on bottom of left side cover) 2-...

05 fz1 dry clutch basket and plates!! What mods fix this??

Sumter. You? I'm pretty sure the clutch would have to be getting enough oil from splash. There is a lot going on when it's running. Might be that it's just not pulling as hard in 6th. If it started slipping I'm sure it would rev to the moon. lol The trans shaft pressure lubes the gears but not...

05 fz1 dry clutch basket and plates!! What mods fix this??

If it is slipping it will usually be worse in higher gears under a hard pull. Not necessarily at higher rpms though. It will usually slip going into 6th under a hard pull first. The times I had mine out it seemed pretty dry too but I have 40,000 miles on it with no trouble. It wasn't dripping...

05 fz1 dry clutch basket and plates!! What mods fix this??

Pretty sure the clutch is oiled from the splash on the outside of the basket. What problem are you having?

    Lost Traction

I think some of the clutch action may be mistaken for lost traction. The lines look pretty good considering there are a lot of marks on that road that we have no idea what it really looks like. :)

Snapped EXUP valve bolts off flush with header. Can't drill bolts out to re-tap.

Since you have already drilled them it may be too late but I have welded nuts (or washers) to broken off bolts and let it cool. This works often. Sometimes I weld a bigger nut to the first one just to add heat.

    Front brakes are sticking.

I have about 1000 miles on my double H sintered pads and I just checked it and I can get about 1 revolution if I spin it real hard. I put 450 miles of that on them today in 7 hours with no sign of trouble. I would say you are OK.

    Front brakes are sticking.

Does loosening the bleeder screw release the brakes? If not the problem is in the caliper. If it does then work your way to the master cylinder loosening the fitting to bleed off pressure. Could be a hose. The first thing to figure out is if it is hydraulic pressure holding them on or some...
