I've been running the same tire configuration you described for the last 2-years. With this year's tire replacement of RS2, front & rear, I haven't noticed any real drop in traction.
Only time in the previous 2-years traction was a possible issue was taking 25-mph curves at 50 mph and being...
Owned a FZ6 and I don't consider it a beginner's bike. FZ6 is a pretty hot bike, meaning it can catch and pass a corvette. My FZ6 clutch was sensitive. A new rider can get themselves into trouble on a FZ6 IMHO although the FZ6 is an easy bike to ride. I would go more for a Yamaha R3 or a Star...
Any thoughts out there if the MT-10 Streetfighter be an upgrade from the FZ1? I'm not sure at this point there be much of difference, but then there's no MT-10 in the flesh in Upstate New York for comparison. MT-10 does has my interest.
I've found any good heavy duty oil [rated for diesel] is good. I particularly like Shell Rotella. I also prefer the 15-40 weight oil. This weight I can run all year in my bike [Upstate New York] and the bike seems to shift better than if I use 20-50.
Shell Rotella 15-40, or a good brand 15-40 heavy duty works best for me. Shifting is smoother. Have used 20-50, but shifting gets heavy is cool/colder weather here in Western NY.
Aside from having to swallow the $400, glad matters worked out without becoming worse. Been following your post. Navel-gazing:
Sometimes knowledge don't come cheap or easy. Prolly a sign to keep the FZ1 and keep riding it.
See you on Campus.
