GOT two Rottweiler puppies! Zeus & Thor are in NH!

Aww, cutsies...

I like Zeus and Apollo, Tango and Cash. First ones suit a rottie's personality.

Personally I'm leaning more towards Apollo & Zeus for just the reason you mention. I think of a rottie when I hear those names. They are plenty masculine enough for a male rottie.....anybody see The Patriot with Mel Gibson? What was the name of the two great danes?

Didn't see the movie, but a Google search yielded the info you wanted...Jupiter and Mars ;)

and then when they are running a muck round the house romping all over the place you could say "i'm too old for this shit"

Paul, you're so right about that. I've been saying that a lot lately.

So Eric, you're definitely getting them neutered right? I just took the C14 800 miles to visit with my daughter. Before I left I took Yogi to the Vet to be neutered. It really bothered me to do it but everyone around me said it was the right thing to do. They were sort of making me feel like a leper if I didn't (my mom, the vet, etc.) so I did it. Hope I didn't piss Yogi off too much.

Yes, absolutely! Any male that you do not neuter will typically end up with several behavioral problems and I already know that with Rotties, you do it as soon as the vet gives the OK... earlier is better! You did the right thing and Yogi will be a better behaved dog down the road because of it. The only reason not to do this is for breeding and we have no desire to breed them. Once they stud out for the first time, they become a different animal, one that usually doesn't make a great house pet. ;)

They come home in 9 more days! Cannot wait!!

I must have gotten lucky because Duke isn't nuetered and he's no problem at all and he is just over three years old now. Then again, he is a "house dog" and rarely goes out. Only to get groomed. He never barks at all, doesn't chew anything in the house, and is so well mannered. Come to think of it, he has never even "humped" on me or anything in the house. Now watch. I opened my big mouth now and with my luck he'll turn into a "monster"!:embarrased:

Thanks Eric.

Yea, I was hoping that Yogi was going to be just like Duke but the vet said he's the biggest Doberman she's ever seen and even though he's a sweetheart right now when he's full grown any "urges" he might get at that size could be dangerous for anyone in his way, even me. That kind of convinced me right there.

I'm curious as to what is the "limit" to have this procedure done? Is there any complications to doing it after the dog has reached adulthood??

I think you can do it at any time as an adult, but they usually make you wait at least until the pup is 6 months old (or so I've heard).

Tony that's just what the vet said.

negative, they can and do spay and neuter dogs younger than 6 months. also many dogs down south that become "rescues" have no definite birthdate, and therefore get neutered or spayed before 6 months by default. my dog came to me neutered, up to date on all shots and vaccinations and micro chipped and was an estimated 5 months old. but as you guys have said, i have also seen dogs well over 2 years old get the snip. so it all depends. obviously you're not going to do the procedure right after the dog is born, but before 6 months old is not uncommon as far as i know. as far as vets go, i think they just make things up sometimes. the vet told me my dog was overweight because of all his scruff. i told him that he has always had extra scruff and that is just the way his body type is. most vets think a healthy dog is one that you can barely see the ribs on, but just like people all dogs have different body types. i could go on all day about this and how it makes me angry, but i'm not going to. instead i will focus my energy on teaching my dog to attack the vet next time we have an appointment! Very nice looking pups mate, enjoy.
I don't agree with the neutering, how would you like it lol.

Thanks! Well, it will feel better than if a 130 lb Rottie tries to mount one of my granddaughters and injures her. ;) For myself, who cares... I'm old and end up sitting on one or the other so I wouldn't miss that pain. :th_smiley_rotfl2[1]

some people wait to get their dog neutered because they think the dog will grow bigger and also develop different features, something about hormones or something. for instance, i know someone that did this with their yellow lab in order to get a big block head. they waited until the dog was about a year old and had grown a lot. idk if this delaying of the neutering works, but some people do it. my dog usually doesn't like unfixed male dogs. idk if it's envy of their balls or what, but he gets really pissed off at them.

Paul, that is because of the hormones produced by an intact-male dog. Your dog's reaction is more a defense mechanism than anything else.

As far as our dogs, it's a behavioral thing to have them neutered. Some people find that when a small dog is humping the kids teddy bear or the leg of a guest, it is funny. I do not. And having a 100+ lb dog attempting that with anything or anyone would be a horror. I've read this quote in many places and heard it on dog programs:

Dogs don't enjoy sex, so you aren't doing your dog any favors. Sex is an automatic drive, and when they can't satisfy that drive, it manifests itself in bad behavior. Spaying or neutering is healthier than leaving a dog intact if you have no intentions of breeding the animal. With males being neutered, you have just eliminated three major health risks that can prematurely take your dog's life, the first being testicular cancer, common in large breed dogs.

We've always had our pets "fixed" and they've all been great pets. We always will fix them in the future.
