I want to add quick-release luggage to my "new" 08 FZ1 so I can go to the beach for a weekend ride etc. My main concern is my laptop, which I have to take on anything longer than a day trip. It's a really small 13" MacBook Air and I have [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Timbuk2-Swig-Laptop-Backpack-Black/dp/B002WC8YSY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1301143929&sr=8-4"]this Timbuk2 laptop backpack[/ame] which is pretty small, but still doesn't look like it will fit in a Givi V35 side case.

What would be the best side luggage? Should I just bungee my backpack to the seat? But then I couldn't ride through rain...

Does anyone have the Givi cases that you could measure the dimensions?

It's hard to make these kinds of decisions without putting my hands on the cases to see if they fit... not sure what to do.

I will be buying the Givi 35s soon. I know Oldschool (Lee) has them on his FZ1 so maybe he'll chime in soon with the dimensions. You can always opt for a rear top case instead of side cases (or in addition to). With the top case storing laptop and helmet shouldn't be a problem.

I talked with Twisted Throttle and they will have them for the FZ1 at $279.99. Should be available in about 4 weeks they said.

Group buy?

If they will give us a discount for a group buy I am definitely in on those... they look awesome. As rarely as I will actually be "touring" I really like the idea of being able to put my bike back to "stock" for all my "around town" riding. :)

I'm in for the Group buy.
I would be stoked if we can get them in by mid April.
Count me in.
How many is that for the group buy?

Those are some sweet bags, If only I could clip my duffle to them.

I think there is Johnny. I have such a crappy night that it effected my brain! LOL. I can't remember where I saw an answer but I think u can.
I just bought a wolfman Dry Duffel for our trip next month. I I will be looking for solutions to the same situation. :eyebrow:
Also snagged some Racer High End Gloves. Can't wait to try them out and break them in on the Hillcountry Ride. LOL. Nah! Screw that! I'm going to have them broken in BEFORE the big ride. :sinister:
I'm getting excited guys!!!

I have a Cortech duffle bag that attaches securely with or without luggage. Does that Dry bag not attache securely without luggage?

Wow... Those bags are SWEET....

I wonder what the group buy price would be for those?

If you can get some prices, it could peak my interest. I love that they would be going on and off in seconds... A passenger could even ride with those if they just sat on the strap going over the rear seat.

Heard back from Twisted Throttle

Here are the details on the group discount.

  1. They offer a 10% discount on 15 orders or more or $3,000.
  2. All the bags would have to be shipped to one address
  3. All orders have to be paid for on a single credit card or check
  4. Returns can only be made on defective products for the same item
  5. All returns have to be orchestrated through the purchaser
SO, basically the bags are $279.99 - 10% = $251.99. :confused0024:

Might be more trouble than it is worth for $30?

I think you're right and thanks for checking. By the time someone got them and turned around shipping them back out to the buyers? Most of the $30 would be used up. I already have a set of saddle bags so I'm looking at creating the pocket on the back for that bar and just creating the bars to sandwich between the sub-frame and pillion peg brackets. :D They will not be easily removable but they will work! My wife has the same luggage and now the same bike so it will be easy to fab a set and replicate the process.

Maybe we should try to negotiate further. If they only offer 10% off then it really is not worth doing a group buy, because we would then have to pay shipping twice and you have the time and hassle of repackaging them and shipping them out.

However if we got together 10 people willing to buy if we got a 10% discount do you really think they wouldn't think about it? Sounds crazy to throw away $2500 in potential business... I KNOW their profit margin is far more than 10%.

I agree. If they discount more than 10% count me in. I am thinking of getting a givi set, but I like that I can remove this system very quickly.

Keep me updated,

Thanks

The Givi side cases come off pretty quickly and if you get the PLXR mounts those can be removed quickly as well. Just leaves some small brackets behind that are hardly noticeable.

*Note: take a look at the attached picture and you'll see what's left behind when you remove the quick release brackets. I have circled the bracket attachment points for reference.

to be honest a 13" lap top isnt that big just looking at the panniers size and I wouldnt bother with worrying. As was said a top box is another way to go as you will still be carrying other things for the beach too.
