Windshield Finished

I finally got around to sanding smooth the rough edge of the windshield today. I had used a dremmel with a cutting wheel to cut it so there were plenty of rough spots.

Here is the image right after cutting.

Here is a shot after 120 grit then finished with 250 grit. I don't think I need any edging. I am very happy with how it looks.

I am still waiting for the cables to come in. They have been back ordered. I hope to have them this week.

Crap! That reminds me.... I need to get a longer hydrolic line for the front brakes. That should be the very last thing before I fire her up and take her for a ride with the changes.

I at least soldered the extra 5" of length in to the right hand electronics today.
 
Just got word that all of the cables came in. Clutch, choke and throttle. I will pick those up over the lunch hour tomorrow.

Today I drained the brake fluid and disconnected the upper front brake line from the master cylinder and mounted the master cylinder back to the bar. I will take that upper section of brake line to my local shop and have them make me a new one 5 3/4" to 6" longer than the original.

Also, at my local shop I am picking up a universal HEX axle tool. This one will work on the Hyo and the FZ1 for $25.

So all that is left to be done is:
1.) Pull the forks and drain the oil. Replace the 5 weight with 7 weight and at the proper volume.

2.) Install clutch, choke and throttle cables.

3.) Install left hand electronics controls.

4.) Install longer upper front brake line.

5.) Install bar ends.

6.) Drop triples 1/2" inch down the forks when I re-install the forks. No more room than that due to the new bars. This will leave about 1/8 gap below the bars.

Should be done this weekend unless something comes up.

Don't spend that kind of money on one of those tools Brad. Flip a spark plug socket over, take out the rubber insert and put an extension in from the wrong side... it fits the axle and doesn't cost anything extra. I even picked up a spare one for $3.00 at Autozone that I keep the rubber insert out of. :D

Glad to hear she's all coming together! Pics and a video of that first ride she takes! :D Well done!

Thanks but still buying it. :) It will fit up to 4 different sizes of axles. The one for the Hyo is quite a bit smaller than the end of most spark plug sockets. Spark plug sockets fits well on the FZ1 (borrowed it from a neighbor.)

Damn, this is a lot of money being spent. I now forgot why all this trouble to make a stock bike lower and comfortable. Instead rather get a Ninja 650R or SV650S.

Bike $2,700 sold as new with factory warranty. Parts and labor have been around $300. The most expensive thing was $120 to drill and tap the stock steering head (I was able to return the steering head I bought). That is still no where close to the cost of a Ninja 650 or an SV650. Besides, I really want my wife to have something even far less powerful than those as her first bike. Maybe she out grows in in a year. Maybe she decides she does not like motorcycles at all. Either way I will get my money back or close to it.

There is a side benefit to all this. I am really enjoying the work and I have learned a lot.

@ Eric, I am not worried about the $25 for the tool. For some reason I just really, really want it. ;)
