I'm looking to buy a granite grey or carbon fiber lower fairing cowl for an 08 fz1, but i'm not really looking to spend almost $500 for it..... Suggestions would be really helpfull.

Well if you want a lower cost one then you'll have to go aftermarket. Thing is I don't think any fit as nice as the factory one and the color match might not be all that great. You can get the factory one here for $344.96 + shipping. You can also check on eBay and see if you get lucky. Here's a stock black one that should go well with your gray bike and only $270!!!

Is the OP looking for the lower cowl or the full lower fairing?

I also bought one from Yamaha Sports Plaza. They shipped fast and were nice to deal with. Plus they were the cheapest that everyone has found. Matches the 08 perfect

I figured he was looking for the OEM lower cowl based on what he'd listed as the high price (almost $500) but I never thought to ask.

Guys is there a reason to have the lower chin cowl other than looks, does it help with cooling or handling, looks nice and may consider getting one, just wondering about functionality.

I don't think that is does anything outside of change the appearance. I can tell you that I've noticed less stuff stuck to the header down-pipes after install but that is about it. I did only get it for the looks though.

I was just looking for the lower cowl, not the entire engine cover. I like to see what makes my bike what it is too much to cover it up

Here is my Powerbronze (UK)
I got this one from PB about 150 shipped. Also a bunch on Ebay. Preped and and sprayed with bedliner. Nice finish and tough against rocks. Good fit even with Givi engine guard. A little better fit without. I like it.

Atleast one other guy with Givi engine guards. They don't work with my highway pegs.

Satan666 worked with a member who had the SW Motech guards and now sells a set that will mount to the guards.

That looks pretty sweet. It seems to be a replica of the Yamaha cowl so it should fit perfectly.
Looks like I've found my next purchase for the bike!

I think I am ordering it. Carbon fiber is better than painted ones - no paint chips from road gravel. And the final order total for me is coming out to $193.94

You'll have to post up some pictures once you get it. I have been looking for a silver lower cowl, but it appears as though that color is no longer available from Yamaha. It may just be cheaper to get one of these and have it painted.
