Recently did the maintenacne to replace my sprockets and chain on my 2004 FZ1 maybe a thousand miles ago. I got a locking washer but it seemed a little thin/brittle.
The bike just started making a weird intermittent rubbing noise consistent with my wheel speed.
I did a chain adjustment and it was still there.
I checked the countershaft (front drive) sprocket and the nut and locking washer was missing. It took about 300ft-lbs to take that sucker off so I put it back on to like 200ft-lbs. Just checked and the threads are fine. The manual calls for 63ft-lbs.

Silly questions; did you guys put threadlocker blue on yours? and what torque spec did you guys use?

Currently buying a new one nut and an OEM locking washer.
Thanks.

I don't recall having any problems changing my sprocket, no loctite.
Could the sprocket have not been seated completely before it was tightened? Something jammed in the splines, perhaps?

The splines were fine, the sprocket slides freely when the nut is not on it. I don’t believe there was anything stopping the nut from tightening on the sprocket

Will do, I’ll triple check everything when installing the new locking washer and nut. The threads look fine.
I’m still going to be overly cautious when I ride the bike next time lol.

And make sure the solid side is facing out and not the hollow side.

Perfect, thanks. I did everything in those images. I just wanted to make sure i wasn't crazy installing this thing backwards. I think the locking washer failed in some way either snapping in half or the flange breaking instead of bending.
Hopefully second time is the charm lol. I'm glad nothing else went wrong lol.
