I acquired a 2004 FZ1 last year that's been sitting in a garage for 20 years. Carbs and fuel tank were a mess, but I got it all sorted out and it's running great! Starts and idles perfectly, though even with choke on I have to open the throttle slightly to get it to start. (My silver 2002 FZ1 starts with full choke and no throttle.)
I just noticed riding them back to back that this 2004 blue one is severely lacking power under 2500 RPMs. Both bikes are jetted exactly the same using the RavenRider carb mods; though I never drilled the slides on either bike, to maintain the stock-like slower throttle response.
Could this just be as simple as carbs being out of sync? I'm not sure what else to look at. I just had the carbs off to clean blocked pilot jets from 2-3 months of sitting and didn't spot anything out of the ordinary.
