"Enjoy your brand new bike" - Ivan, or something pretty close to what he said on the phone when flashing my bikes CPU.

He wasn't lying.

To be honest I was on the fence about selling my Fz1 prior to this. I had owned another one years ago, a red 2006 and my memory of it was a much more lively and fun bike than my current one.
Both bikes had 16T sprockets, slip ons, and KN filters. My red 06 had the butterflies done and the AIS blocked (now obsolete with his new flash btw). All the standard mods. And Ivans flash from way back then.
My current bike had a Power Commander 3 instead.

Ivan's work isn't going to be news, but I figure most of these topics are a decade old and a more recent topic maybe helpful to new owners.

First off his airbox mod is much, much more quiet and cleaner sounding than the Lars version. FYI.

So, what difference did it make?

All the difference.

It's more than the bike I remember. You still have the mid and higher RPMS being the fun zone, but at 20 and 30mph the bike has a lot more torque. A lot better response. It's not a chore to ride at those speeds anymore. It use to feel gutless there.

The difference in pull and performance I'll explain in events that happened when I was testing it.

First cruising at 70mph, I pulled over to make sure I had all my gears, that I wasn't stuck in 4th. Nope, I was in 6th, it was just pulling like I down shifted twice. Cruising at 75ish in 6th gear and passing without dropping a gear, I was doing 20 more in less time it takes to say "one Mississippi" .

Doing 40, aiming to go 55. I hit 65 before I realized I over shot 55.

Doing 30 in first, where it's just about to get fun and punching it to 55 (and over shooting it again), my exact words where almost a fun angry "F***** S***!!!" Front wheel was starting to lift.

I start sliding backwards at 6000rpm when going WOT, but not actually punching it. I'm 280lbs before gear btw. (not fat, just a big guy lol)

Basically there is more power everywhere. And the thing revs instantly like I remembered my red one doing.

My MPG went from mid 20s to 44.
And I'm riding it much harder to boot. (I suspect I could easily get more than 44 with less hooligan riding.)

With the Power Commander it was a nice bike. But just a bike. With Ivan's work to it it is genuinely thrilling again in the best way possible.
He was great to work with, answered all my questions. Be sure to check out his webpage as the bike needs somethings done to it. Nothing is going to be difficult if you know what a voltmeter already is, if you don't it's still not hard.( Basically ground a wire and click a few buttons on the dash, turn a screw on the side to set the idle, loosen two screws to adjust a sensor by moving it easily.) Turn around time was like 6 or 7 days.

If you're on the fence about it, don't be. It's worth it. I know we all have different expectations and can imagine things differently when we read them, but I seriously doubt you could ever be disappointed. At the very least I suggest trying someones bike who has that flash done, cause no, a power commander doesn't come close.

I guess Ivan said it best when he said, "Enjoy your brand new bike."

Yeah the ease that it breaks a 100 is a bit nerve racking, like it's just getting going. More than anything it's dealing with buffering when you start hitting that.

And no drag strip yet, but a fun idea though. A quick shifter be a good idea, nothing like 12,000 rpm to let you know you can't shift as fast as you think lol

Just such a completely different bike.

I found an old post that someone made, went to the strip and raced his old man on a busa. They both went 10.1's in the quarter. Had to be around 140mph?

I have really been considering getting the flash done, I have a pcv and don't get me wrong it's fun and has power but It feels like it's missing something... Maybe it's missing more power? I also don't like the herky jerky throttle feeling when I'm going through tight switch backs I feel like I have to concentrate more on throttle control than any other aspect of cornering...

The herky jerky is from the fuel cut off, that's fixed with his flash.

I had a PC3, and it was ok, but I always thought the bike was missing something. My previous one struck a different cord, difference was it had Ivans flash, and with his newest one I can safely say it's better than the other bike was.

Honestly it's a noticeable difference. It's revs easier and quicker and pulls considerably harder.

I was done with this bike, but i decided to try Ivans flash as a last ditch effort to see if I should trade it in for something that moved my soul instead. The change is significant enough I'm no longer considering selling it, and like I said, I was ready to trade it in, thinking I just remembered my first fz1 different than reality.

Best money I ever spent on it.

That much of a difference??!!, so setting the TPS and setting the C0s was pretty straightforward?

It's not a jump from like a 650 to a 1000, but I found it a very substantial difference. Enough to post about it.

Here's another topic on it, never mind the troll.

Here's Ivans instructions on those mods:

The CO setting is literally a few clicks on the dash. You do need to ground a wire to access the information though. Basically you have to carefully pull that wire out from its harness. I suppose you could possibly tap into it or just cut it, but I'd ask on that first, might be a reason beyond putting it back if you want later.

The TPS takes a type of bit that has a hole in it. You can find them at Home Depot. The top on needs an Allen wrench type and the bottom a screw driver type. The frame blocks using a screwdriver for the top, the intake keeps you from using an allen wrench for the bottom. If you have a tiny ratchet that is made for screw driver bits it works well.

The TPS is adjusted by slightly rotating it after loosing the screws. A little goes a long ways, even tightening the screws affects it.

I used two needles in the wiring harness to read it with a voltmeter (make sure yours works accurately). They are close to each other, don't let the voltmeter touch both needles eith the same wire, it kills the bike and it needs to be warmed up and running when you check this.

The idle is adjusted with a screw on the side of the bike, you can change it by hand, it's easy, ive done it while sitting on it at the gas station.

You'll want your airbox minded too if it's not already. If it's still stock, not to sound like a fan boy or something, I suggest Ivans version of it. Same power but the intake is quieter and cleaner sounding (the Lars version I found to hear as much as my exhaust under normal use, and it wasn't a good sound to my ears, but to each their own).

Well damn, I appreciate you taking the time, you have me convinced now that's going to bey next mod, I was eye balling an arrow collector, I found one for pretty cheap but I think having more usable power would be more beneficial.

Anytime. It made a big difference for me, figured it's always nice to help others get the same.

From what ive seen with his dynos is you can get a little more around the 4-6k rpm range with full headers. It's on my wish list but the flash is well worth it to do first.

Shipping was like $35(?) after insurance each way. Turn around time was like 6-7 days. He has instructions of how to ship it on his sight.

So Ivan is still in the business?
