2024 MotoGP Discussion Thread *SPOILERS*

I strongly disagree with the stewards ruling on that one. If the beast was able to take the turn without going off track, then maybe it is a racing incident.... that was a very poor ruling. I get it was the last lap - but it was not the last corner. Enea just picked up a black mark on his record for this one.

In other news - glad to see Fabio get the Yamaha further up the rankings. I am super curious to see how the new V4 works - perhaps we will have a real option to stop having a ducati cup with some other manufactures as well....

Agree on seeing Yamaha move up a little. I think Honda even got a mention. Watching the top five Ducati gets old and difficult to discern who's who, at least MM has a different color.

I give credit to Bagnia for continuing to push, I thought Martin wold let the Beast go by once Bagnia was down.

Just curious, but why would Martin let Bastianini go by?

That was the suggestion of the announcers on the TRU TV feed which I think is the official MOTOGP feed. I believe they felt 2nd would be better than crashing like Bagnia. Their suggestion was to put "2nd OK" on the pit board on the second to last lap. I don't think Martin has a safe mode, although he's maturing.

They (announcers) claim the Beast is better at saving tires to the end .........which seemed to be playing out. I thought dialing back was a safe option while watching the race, the passing incident could have taken one or both riders down. In the end it's how things played out ..........Martin got 2nd.

Pramac team boss Gino Borsoi has spoken out following the stewards' controversial decision during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. On the last lap of the race, Enea Bastianini, riding for the factory Ducati team, made contact with championship leader Jorge Martin whilst attempting an overtake. The incident, which occurred at Turn 4, saw both riders breach track limits. However, the stewards elected not to investigate the event and omitted any mention of it in their post-race report.

Borsoi's comments followed discussions with the stewards on why the overtaking move—which many in the racing community deemed to be beyond acceptable limits—went unpunished. Borsoi explained to the media:

“Well, we had some conversations with race direction (the stewards). They say it was ok, the overtake, not over the limit. Well, it is what it is. We know that.”

Bastianini's overtake on Martin pushed the latter off the track and saw Bastianini also crossing the kerbs. Despite these infringements, the stewards decided against any penalties, which Borsoi reiterated:

“For sure, not dramatic.

“It is what it is right now. We are happy because we got the podium, we got again a gap between us and Pecco - and sorry to Pecco [for his crash].

“But anyway, what happened in the last lap is not my task, I’m not part of race direction.

“They decided not to give any penalty to Bastianini and now we learn from that.

The lack of transparency from the stewards has led to different interpretations within the racing community. While some riders viewed the move as fair, notably MotoGP veteran Marc Marquez felt that Bastianini should have been penalized for leaving the track during the overtaking maneuver.

The incident has also opened up discussions about what will be considered acceptable in future races. Borsoi concluded:

“We know that the limit is there and in the future if you need to do something like this on the last lap, you can do it because you are allowed to do it.”

While the Pramac team is relieved to maintain a competitive gap behind Pecco Bagnaia despite the controversy, the incident has raised significant questions about standards and consistency in race officiating.

I read that article and agree that a line has been drawn. Now the Stewards need to rule the same exact way for ALL last lap antics that push both rides off the racing line and off the track.....

They just opened up a huge can of worms.

My wife thinks the stewards let it go so a factory ducati could make the 100th win for the brand in Italy...... Could be? I don't know.

Last lap passes for the rest of the season are gonna be a bit more brutal.

last turn of the last lap is different than turn 4 of the last lap IMO. but the lines have been moved.

It is feeling more and more like a 2-horse race for the championship. I am really rooting for Martin. I have nothing against Pecco - just really want to see Martin take the championship this year.

Did you guys see that Fabio ran out of gas again on the last turn of the last lap???? It let Zarco pass him before he could coast over the line in 12th.... Yamaha and Honda still have a lot of work to do.

Yamaha and Honda aren't even in the same league. They fare a little better in WSBK but still loose out to BMW and Ducati.

Some great side by side racing in the sprint. Felt bad for Acosta going down. Not my favorite track for viewing.

The Sprint crash between Bezzecchi and Vinales was brutal. Seems to still be simmering in the GP news. Apparently Bezzecchi didn't appreciate Vinales giving his knocked out body the Fiinger. Thought Jorge managed the race as best he could.

The camera angles seemed different than previous years.

Great races from Thailand. MM's near save was classic MM, if there hadn't been a berm there he might have pulled it off. Championship is a little closer going into the next round.

The big disappointment was the first 8 places were taken by Ducatis. Fabio was doing fantastic in the rain till he was taken out.

On a positive note Yamaha took all the places in Womens' World Superbike Race. If you haven't watched the women's venue it's pretty entertaining...... at maybe a slower clip.

Suppose you watched a different race ?? KTM, Aprilia and Honda were scattered in the top 8-10.
And the World WCR races are all with Yamaha R7 in that series. So pretty sure the Tuning Fork Company would lock out all the positions as they were the only manufacturer involved.

I guess he was referring to the sprint results. First 8 in that all Ducatis.

Dunno. Suppose he's jumbled both days results in one post without distinction. As such seems like references to a single event. MM93 crashed in the wet race on Sunday. FQ20 also taken out on Sunday in the wet. Both finished in Saturday dry sprint race.
