1. Change the coolant.

2. Make sure the coolant reservoir behind the right side is filled up. I have been running a nearly empty reservoir until summer's heat forced me to do maintenance. Now we run perfectly.

The only time my fan kicks on is when im stopped or going slow in traffic. I turn my bike off with key on out of habit from running air cooled bikes.

Which is absolutely useless on a liquid cooled bike, because when the bike is running the coolant is still circulating which means as it goes by the fans it gets cooled off and new hot coolant comes in. Even leaving the key on and engine off isn't all that great either because it's just cooling the coolant in the radiator not the stuff in the entire engine.

I rarely come across this situation, but i think the motor cools off faster with the motor off and the fans on when sitting in traffic.

I don't think so. With the motor off, the water pump isn't spinning and thus the coolant isn't circulating. The radiators will cool down fast but the coolant in the engine sits there soaking up heat

No difference when you pull your bike in your garage from a hot ride and shut it off
