So this Happened today

I come out from work and see this in the parking lot:

People are disgusting. No note, nothing. Some workers who spoke little English said it was a red car. I walked around the lot and found 5 red cars, 4 of which all had scratches on the front drivers side of the vehicle.... Lame.

that's just sickening. luckily the damage isn't too bad.

That is the very reason I NEVER pull all the way forward in a spot. I make sure a car can see the spot is taken and not have them whip into a spot and then realize a bike is there

+1 on that and I back it in so it doesn't get bumped off the center stand. I usually line up my front wheel even with the rear of the cars parked on either side.

I actually carry day glow orange cones in my tank bag and put them across the front of the spot I park in. I am that paranoid.

Sh*t like that, makes me angry:shaking head:

Dang that sucks. Sorry this happened to you. I hate it when people do stuff like that. I had someone leave a big white scrape down the side of my one month old car when I intentionally parked at the far end of the car park so no one would park next to me. There were plenty of white cars in the park, but I couldn't tell who did it. Have some respect & make right your mistakes. Hope you get it sorted out without too much money spent. I also hope you find out who did it & get them to fess up & make it right.

As previously said, when I park the bike, I always park far back in the park so people see it before heading in.

Some people...they really suck. I would hate to see my bike like that after a day at work.

I am very lucky about where I work,we have 2 dedicated motorcycle parking lots, both are protected by curbs so that cars cannot have access to those parking lots area. One of them is even under a roof, and has a wall that protects the bikes from dominant winds!!

Hope you get yours fixed soon and for not to much $$

Yeah, that would pi$$ me off to no end. Sorry man!

I'm just like JMudy and Oldbiker. I always back in, always use the center stand and always park at the leading edge of the spot so they can easily see it when coming down the lane.

You have full coverage? Someone tipped over Michele's bike at work a couple weeks ago. They did not leave a note but did stand it back up. We found out the next day when we were leaving for work. She put her kick-stand up (Soupy's lowered stand) and the peg for the spring let go and the stand went down. Glad it happened in the driveway! So I'm looking at it and then realize that all the spots that would hit the asphalt were all scratched! How much do you think the estimate was? A tip-over.... ?? I was shocked. The adjuster handed me an estimate for $1,152.88 for a TIP OVER! And with Progressive, the deductible only applies to OEM parts, not the aftermarket parts which they paid full retail for. (We both have $3k riders on our plans for mods). Most of what he marked off and paid are things I can easily smooth over and fix. The biggest thing I cannot fix is the custom purple painted lower fairing on her Purple Harley Eater.... That's coming off and headed back to the painter. That is also half of the quoted damage.

I was luckier with my tip-over. I only scuffed up the mirror, slider and cracked the fairing. I used JB Weld plastic epoxy to back up the crack and can live with the scuffed mirror. The slider did its job and prevented major damage.

However, I wasn't as lucky when some booze head backed up into my bike while it was parked in my space in the apartment lot. That broke the front reflector and bracket and chipped some paint on the fairing. The turn signal was hanging but that popped back in. So I ordered touch up paint from Color-Rite and a new reflector and bracket. Total cost was $70 and I have a $250 deductable so no insurance claim there.

I checked around, no Video Surveillance.

I normally do back it in to a different spot that is on a slope and I use the kick stand instead of the Center Stand, but those spots are blocked off this week for construction. So I parked in a different area and pulled forward to put the bike in the shade (it has been unseasonably warm here in Socal, hitting mid 90's at the beaches... I used the center stand because it was a flat spot and makes it easier to strap my backpack to the tail when I get off work. I won't be doing that again.

I only have min coverage so my own insurance is not an option, and I am not going to purchase an entire new fairing. I will take her apart tomorrow and see if I can bend the metal bracket back in place and get the plastic buffed out some. I have some buddies who do bumper painting, I will see if they can match the paint and fix the minor spots.

I am just glad it was not knocked into the 4-Runner parked next to it. I would have been pissed if I had to use my insurance to pay for someone else's car when it was not even my fault.

Question: You guys in the US have absurdly cheap insurance rates (from the outside looking in). Why did you choose to go with the bare minimum? I noticed this is a common thing despite the fact full coverage is only hundreds a year from what I have seen

I am not sure about everyone else, but my coverage for a 2003 FZ1 is $87.00 every six months for Basic Collision. Full coverage is well over double that. I only paid $3000.00 for the bike.

The math does not work out.

Unbelievably cheap insurance! That's great! :)

$1100 per year here for basic. I get private coverage for fire/theft/accidents/gear/etc and that's an additional $325 a year

It depends on the state. Some classify bikes and charge more for supersports. Some (like where I am in NH) charge based on engine CC alone and the price is very reasonable if you stay below 1000cc. The FZ1 is perfect at 998cc. I pay $283 a year for full coverage 100k/300k/100k, $250 deductible (OEM parts only) and that includes a rider for $3000 worth of modifications/aftermarket stuff. That is both cheap and worth it.

Klurejr, the damage isn't so bad you cannot get it all fixed or replaced at reasonable costs. It will take some parts and elbow grease but can be done. You have to be thankful it didn't fall the other way onto that cool exhaust!
