Right now I have a mint FZ1 which I put a ton of accessories on. Love the bike and absolutely nothing wrong with it but my eye is wondering towards a new Ninja 1000. I find the Ninja stunning. Talk me out of it because when the wife find out I'll be on the street.

New Ninja $8,999 all in except tax.

I'm a fickle pickle!

I was not a fan of the Ninja 1000 ABS when I rode it last year during Bike Week. It just lacked the raw feeling that the Fz1 provides. I mean if you want a more refined, but less exhilarating ride go for the Ninja. Also I personally do not like Kawi's styling at all, never have. One last point, if you have big feet the Ninja 1000 exhaust position is horrible. I wear size 14 shoes, and my heels could not get comfortable putting me in this pigeon toe position that made my knees hurt.

I've already spent plenty on the FZ1 doing upgrades. Not much left to do other than suspension. I do like the FZ1 and I know it's a quicker bike. The Ninja is a more refined ride and the instrument cluster is much better (more info). FZ1 has more choices when it comes to accessories. Ninja offers better weather protection. Small feet so the muffler/peg position won't be a problem. It would suck to be in a tent, still have 4 feet of snow on the ground!

Don't do it buggy that bike is similar to the one you have now. If your gonna get another bike at least make it an upgrade.

Suspension.

That's the single most important thing to change! It's the only thing I even bother upgrading

I can tell you the money for a great shock, like Ohlins makes the world of difference. Having the front done as well would run you about $3000 all together. About a 3rd of what you list the Ninja being (and you know you would dump a bunch of cash into it). The FZ that you have is beautiful!! You would certainly miss that seat (Oh, and your wife).;)

Check the insurance rates for the Ninja compared to the FZ1. That made my decision easy :) they wanted over twice as much for the Ninja !

I've heard other people mention the same thing . The Ninja name has many insurers boosting rates.. Personally I think Kawasaki made a HUGE mistake slapping the Ninja name on that bike.

Agree. Plus the fact the motor is over 1,000 cc's - which puts it in a different class (higher rates) with most insurance companies. Yamaha is smart by keeping cc's below 1,000 with the FZ1. I don't understand Kawasaki's thinking - they are killing sales for a measly 43 cc's!

And that name! Especially for the Ninja 1000 - which is the more upright more faired version. That's a geezer mobile compared to the regular Ninja. But Kawasaki has it encumbered with over 1,00cc and "ninja" insurance penalties.

But .. if you shop around .... I did ---- Found State farm to be better than most - by a lot. The Ninja was still higher than FZ1 but not by such a huge margin as my usual company.

You already have a very nice bike.

R1 rear shock will help you out even. Not sure what performance mods you have done but there is stuff to do. the ninja looks sharp also.. Do you really like your wife still??? lol

Ya know bikes are a lot like women:

1. you get comfortable with one she's manageable

2. up grades are always nice (exhaust, suspension/boobs, hair)

3. new is always better and will wear off once you own it.

4. new will always cost you more and just like a marriage you will lose your a$$ trying to get out of it what you have invested in it.

5. Sometimes you will want to go back once you realize what a big mistake you have made.

6. Demo rides are always nice and you may find that its not all that its cracked up to be or looks a lot better than feels.

7. There will always be something prettier, newer, shinier and will catch your eye.

Or you can live in proverbial Utah and be like Dustin and Myself who have a garage full of cheap little older sluts to play with. (older cheap craigslist finds)

I'm sure there a lot more analogies I can think of but you better think long and hard before making the decision.

Its nice to ask others who have been in your shoes but ultimately its the question you have to answer I'm am to unhappy to stay in this relationship .....:dontknow:

New bikes are always nice, but it's a sideways move. I would go FZ-09 next year or FJR or ZX-14, since I already have an FZ-1.

If I did not have an FZ-1, yes I could see going Ninja, but I don't get too emotional over bikes and cars because that is when you make spontaneous decisions which can be bad at times.

I always remember that the bike I currently ride or the car I currently drive is not the first nor that last. Next year you might be able to score that same 2013 Ninja for $7k too.

Actually the insurance rate was cheaper than the FZ1. I had checked about a year ago when I was trying to decide weather to buy the FZ1 I have now or the ninja 1000 (TD insurance).

I'm running a PC5 and Ivan's map with air box mode and exhaust. I was thinking about the R1 shock and running progressive spring in the front.

I do still love my wife.
