Tragedy in Oakland

Road Rage. There is no defense against it.

It used to happen a lot in Miami until Florida passed their concealed carry law and then the incidents of road rage fell off.

hmmmm coincidence?

that story is more than "Road Rage" if the victim was in a car, sure, but on a motorcycle, that's just attemped murder, and glad the authorities saw it that way as well.

hindsight being 20/20, the rider should have pulled off to the shoulder and let the guy go past when it came to that.

Road Rage doesn't care if their victim is another car, motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian they just see red for whatever insane reason and act out. All road rage incidents can be classed as attempted murder.

wow, that is scary.

I twice made gestures to people to hang up their phone on this mornings ride in to work.... But I am careful to never make any rude gestures. So sad that we have to live in fear of people like this moron. Attempted Murder is a good charge for this guy, hopefully it sticks and he spends some time behind bars.

This occurred very close the where I live. I have also met Richard before during riding but I only knew him as an acquaintance. There is a bit more info on a local riding forum I frequent including some missing information here. The perp was caught tried to shoot an officer and was in turn shot himself. I hope as soon as he heals up he enjoys a nice long stay in jail for what he has done.

Hahaha, I open carry sometimes if I'm going for long rides through the desert or to sketchy neighborhoods. I had a car once get mad when I was overtaking them after I was maybe following a little too closely just to get the angle to sneak through a gap in the other lane, and they honked at me but by the time I was to the side of them they saw my gun on my right hip and slammed on the breaks, it made me laugh.

I had another guy as I was coming up on the left lane drift all the way from the right half way into my lane in front of me and then catch on to what they had done and get back in the right lane. I sped up to get round this guy and when I'm next to him I gesture with my left hand texting and then an upturned palm and shrug of the shoulders like WTF. This guys face turned bright red and he flipped me off. I got out of there quick.

Last story. Another guy was driving slowly, kept losing pace with traffic and also was slow coming off the line at stop lights. I finally get an opening to get around him and he looks up to me from the phone (we are going 35ish) and I gesture the texting motion with my left hand and shake my head at him. I speed ahead and he tries following me flashing his lights, I cut through some more traffic and the guy thankfully left me alone.

The thing is I don't even flip people off or anything aggressive like that. I just want to make them aware they are not paying attention and driving like a douche because of their mobile phone use.

After reading about this article, I might just have to stop the gesturing and leave people alone to their stupidity.

Yea, probably a good idea. I doubt your gesturing is going to have any impact on their behavior, but could possibly lead to some bad consequences for all involved.

This is a very interesting observation.
Road rage is such an immediate and irrational set of emotions that the sight of a gun might be one of the things that snap the perpetrator out of his "funk".
Sky's open carry thing might be a good thing to consider.
You never know what is going to set off one of these drivers - seems there is an awful lot of frustration in our society these days - and that is where some people snap - the road.

Sky, You seriously open carry in PHX? Man you are nuts. One day the desert scum will not be intimidated and cap you.

Seriously, put that thing away. PHX is a nasty city.

I've been traveling there since 1969, and lived there in 1988. I'm there at least twice a year to visit friends and family.

You really need to start playing the, "What If Game." If you don't you'll really get jacked.
