Installed a new Danmoto exhaust. It sounds good but on deceleration it seems to be dumping fuel to where it is popping and spitting.... Also seems that I'm getting less fuel mileage. Would this be from the exhaust? I did not remove the cat or the o2 sensor. Any suggestions or comments?

My wife has a fz6 with Leo's without db killers and I burned WAY MORE fuel... On the same ride

Thanks

Popping is normal on these bikes unless you do further modding (AIS block-off, if I'm not mistaken).

MPG should not have gone down due to new exhaust. What are you getting? My average on last few tanks has been 34.

My naked FZ6 with Leo's (baffles always in) used to get 43.

Well you're right about something being dumped into the exhaust, but it ain't fuel, it's fresh air being dumped via the AIS system. The AIS system introduces fresh air into the exhaust stream to burn off unburnt fuel. It's very common to hear popping as the fuel ignites in the exhaust especially with a slip-on. Blocking or plugging the AIS system will solve most if not all of your popping. Just do a search, this has been covered in great detail.

As far as your fuel mileage. The Gen 2 is not known for great mileage compared to other motorcycles. Typically, 33-36 mpg is average with some people getting a little more and some less. If you are within that ballpark, your bike is running normal.

If you're getting over 30 mpg, you're in the normal range. I've been known to come home with a 25 mpg tank but MAN was that a lot of FUN!!! 32.5 is my average...

The popping is just as described... lift the tank, remove the top of the airbox and plug the AIS intake hose. Done.... Not all of it will go away as you'll still get some on hard decel.

Am I crazy for actually kinda liking that popping on hard decel? :D (very infrequent in my day to day riding, but when I do decel hard from high RPM, I dig that sound)

No, you're not! I like it too, but not a full day of it... it starts to annoy me. But once in a while, even with the AIS blocked, I like to come into work at about 11k RPMs and use the decel to slow for the corner... pop-crazy!

:thewave:

Not saying every bike are the same. But I'm about done tuning the Gen2 header mod with Danmoto Jusi can on my FZ6R. The popping occur when the AF ratio get over 15:1. So when it lean out too much... it pop. So I got it all fix now but I'm dumping a lot of fuel in the zero column and still barely getting 14.0-13.5 in the lower RPM. No popping... just a sexy rumble!!! I'm not digging the popping so much...

Thanks for all the help guys... I just looked at 2 YouTube video's the copperdawg has there on how to do this but it is in 2 separate videos and a little confusing... Is it just the hose leading out of the air box that you block? Do I have to go down under the tank or is there a way to get at it from the side of the bike(video almost made it look that way at one point) do you just block and reconnect? Sorry for all the questions:spank2::spank2::spank2::spank2:

I just got my Micron GP exhaust and I love the popping on hard decel. The only time it's a nuisance is when I want to appear casually slowing down and a cop is coming the other way. Happened to me twice today as I was carving traffic. Luckily I must have not been seen or not that bad of sound for them to hear.

I'm a little worried about my mpg and how it's going to change. My bike was a thirsty wench anyway, and I don't need another reason for her to suck it down at the tank.

I didn't notice the popping noise until I replaced the stock muffler with a Yamaha GYTR slip-on, then it became very noticable. I plan to block things off (probably just plug hose) during the off-season.

it so easy to do but you have to remove or at least lift the tank high enough. You also have to remove the entire airbox to get to the AIS... You can block if off or do it properly and install block off plates

The stock muffler has a valve that a servo closes every time you roll off the throttle. The A.I.S. or air injection system works to ignite any unburned fuel that makes it past the exhuast valves, which is why the popping. The. Stock muffler, very effectively masks this. Any aftermarket pipe will allow this noise, unless you block or remove the system. But like Dustin would say, think of the baby seals...

Holy cow went to check out lifting the tank to get at the A.I.S and boy oh boy not a 1/2 hour job.I have to first remove all the front lower fairings then the inside fairing sides and the top tank plate, this is fine but I also have flush mounted signal lights attached to the fairings!!! Guess its a rainy day project.....

You do not have to remove the front lower fairings, only the black fairing inserts with the vents and the front tank cover to get to the gas tank bolts, 2, one on each side. It's not that bad. Takes about ten minutes total.

But one of the lower screws in the tank cover is under both upper and lower fairings.can't get the Allen key in there to remove it......

I don't think its the pipe that is causing bad gas mileage its the right wrist that's twisting to hear the beautiful sound of the pipe. So I guess maybe the pipe is causing bad gas mileage but its not the pipes fault!
