Have you all caught up with this one? A cross-plane 850cc naked triple?

2014 Yamaha FZ-09 Home, information

Discuss.... Seems they put a bunch of money into some things and cheapened the suspension even further... At least it has radial mounted fronts now....

I like the look and I'd love to test-drive one.

Considering the msrp under $8000 I can forgive the cheaper suspension :)

I'm hoping for a 1050cc-1200cc version myself :)

When you compare the bore/stroke on this bike to a Speed Triple it REALLY makes u think Yamaha will have a longer stroke , small bore increase version of this engine around 1100cc's

I've always lusted over the Speed Triple's torque curve but prefer Japanese reliability, parts/service availability and pricing.

Fingers crossed for a bigger triple from Yamaha !

79mm X 71.4mm Speed Triple bore stroke 1050cc

78mm X 59.1mm Yamaha MT09 / FZ09 bore stroke 850cc COME ON YAMAHA STROKE THIS SUCKER 10MM-12MM...............PLEASE !

Call me old fashioned, but I like the short stroke high rev engines. The way the power builds from low revs and then surges to redline is a sensation I find I be very exciting and also very manageable. This winter I rode an Apex and a Nytro (snowmobiles) back to back. The Apex is the 998 and the Nytro is a 1050 triple. I was completely underwhelmed by the Nytro. I could feel how it would be better in deep snow and jumping and all that, but I like a high speed cruiser and the Apex is where it's at in that category. The Nytro jumps up but it falls off just as quick. The Apex pulls forever, just like my FZ1. Some complain the FZ1 lacks bottom end, but that's why God gave us close ratio six speed manual transmissions, IMHO. To each his (or her) own, though. There seems to be a lot if buzz surrounding this format. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the next gen FZ1 or its replacement using a higher displacement version of this triple, and I bet the displacement will be upped by stroking, not boring. It seems to be the way the market is going. I tell you, though, there is nothing like an FZ1 for running about 50 miles of gently sweeping secondary highway at 90-110 sustained MPH. It's what that engine was born to do.

Well I'm not sold on the styling yet, but I'm looking forward to a test ride next year. I'm guessing I'll like the riding position, but the power might be somewhat lacking.

Likely top end will be missing... I'm thinking this is more for commutes and around town or highly technical roads where speed isn't a factor. It should be a growler in the low-mid ranges... but it will lack punch and over-all speed.

I like everything but the exhaust. That suitcase in the middle *must* go!

As excited as I am about this crossplane triple, and I will most definitely test drive one once my local dealer has one, the styling/looks don't appeal to me at all. I'm partial to the half fairing and true sportbike looks. I guess they were going for more of a roadster/motard look/appeal.

This triple is just the first iteration in the new series. Yamaha would not develop an all new from the ground up engine to just have an underpowered putt-putt type machine. I'm waiting for the full on liter version with top flight suspension, probably in one or two years.

In my experience a naked bike doesn't need a 200mph top end motor.
You can barely hang on when you get to 120 mph.
I reckon this bike's engine will be perfect for a bike without fairings and it will still be plenty fast enough.

Yea, I'm pretty sure we'll see a 1050-1100 cc triple soon enough. Triumph's Speed Triple is one of my favorite bikes. Hopefully it will be something along those lines :D
