Exup issues....

Fairly new to this but need some advice....I bought a B..E..A..utiful 2003 Fazer thou but the last few days there has been a "tinny" sound coming from the exhaust so i checked the exup valve and one of the cables had snapped!!!!! so as a temp fix i wire locked the valve to full open while i find more info on what to do. Now there is a huge flat spot in from about 5500rpm to 8000rpm. it still has the stock exhaust...so would I be better off buying a nice mivv gp end can and f**k the exup valve or fix the exup valve? and when i said i wire locked it full open I'm not a 100% if it is actually full open or closed.....HELP NEEDED OBVIOUSLY

Buying an end can won't help. The EXUP is located before the end can. You need a full system, with headers, to get rid of the EXUP.

Replacing the cables and lubing the EXUP valve should cost less than end can. The EXUP works well when cleaned and setup.

There may be a thread out there, that someone has figured out how to work around the EXUP. Search is your fried.

I was hoping i could lock it out somehow because i'm working away from home and i dont have any tools here to do the job....the valve itself isn't seized, it was just vibrating when at about 3000 rpm prob due to the broken cable hmmmm. thanks tho :cheers:

Is it possible to tie it in a middle position? This may help with the flat spot.

I think the only way to remove the EXUP and maintain a good low end would be to have a "Full Exhaust" installed. Unfortunately, the GenI bikes actually used the EXUP for more than just sound. It gave the bike some low end torque. If you could find a set of cables, you wouldn't need a whole bunch of tools to get her back to good form. You'd definitely be able to find a set of EXUP Cables on Ebay. You only need the tools that came with the bike to do the job.

Just replace the cable and re-lube the valve and your good to go. Removing the exup is doable but will be expensive and may need tuning.

I would keep the EXUP. The cable is not that expensive to replace and if the valve isn't "frozen" in place then a new cable (and proper adjustment) will have the bike running great again.
