concerned I have 2013 Fz1 after only 600 miles the exhaust pipes where the header pipes (4-2-1) collection under the engine are very discolored. From the past have been told a engine running too lean will cause chrome pipes to discolor. concerned is my engine fuel controller off I believe or question will elevation effect it im at sea level or is this normal for these bikes?

If it's the part under the engine it's probably just getting hot because that's where the cat is. Don't know about the newer fz1s but the collector under the engine on mine was never a nice looking chrome finish. Even my headers in front of the engine that were chromed went through a phase where they were slightly discolored when the bike was new, think it's more or less the new chrome.

You're probably right about the the heat causing the discolorations. I didn't think the stock header was chrome, but polished ss instead :dontknow:

If it's ss then it should polish back up with some elbow grease...

Mine did the same. Polished the whole lot and it came straight back. Don't think it will be a problem except it looks like crap.

If you keep up with the polishing it's not too bad, but once you let it go it can be a lot of work to bring it back from what I have seen, especially if ridden in wet conditions.

thanks

never thought about the cat just had the concern new bike and it is hot where Iam riding at 110+ degrees maybe should think about pulling it but so new hate to mess with warranty

I wouldn't until warranty is up personally. You are fine all of the rest of our bikes have done it. Yamaha may have used a different more weldable material thru there.
I'm betting the rest if it is Inconel and that it like 308 stainless. Inconel is a super stainless alloy.
