I sure like the new Honda.

A younger (50 year old) cousin took the DMV bike test last week, so he buys his neighbor's salvage 05 R6 for $750 to take the driving part, but he's "too lazy to get it back on the street."

At a Sunday BBQ I show him my FZ1 and said "I was shopping Hayabusa, before I found this red gem." He said the Busa is his "dream bike," but he should get the R6 running.

He rode LOTS of dirt bikes as a teen, but nothing over a 250cc on the street.

Yesterday he txt me I "got him shopping again, so Monday he bought a used Busa." :hellno: I think he is crazy or shopping with his ego. I told him "if I replaced the 08 FZ1 it would be a new one or a CBR1000RR with Heli Bars." The Busa just seems like overkill in HP and weight. The photos are two I like from Google.

Your thoughts?

5'7"! I was close ;) Short and obnoxious, perfect for a Hayabusa!

But seriously, he's a grown up and he'll have to make his own decisions. And mistakes. I've never ridden a 'busa before but just throwing a leg over one makes me leery to see some newbie get one as his first bike. It's big, it's awkward and it's fucking fast

Keep us posted and best of luck with everything.

I'd buy the CBR or any other litre supersport over a 'busa.

I was messing around with a guy on a 'busa the other day from light to light. He dropped me by about 10 yards each time. I had the jump on him both times but the dam lug in the 3500-6000 before the Fz1 gets into it's power band sunk me. We both never left 1st gear and quit after about 75-80.

I think the 'busa would be fun, but I sat on one and really didn't like the ergonomics for my body.

Everyone I know who rides a 'Busa says they're awesome. Comfortable, tractable, and really fast. However, they are also known universally as the squid bike. The guys I know who run them aren't squids, and they hate the rep that the bike has, but they do acknowledge it is true that the bike attracts squids. Personally, I think it's one of the stupidest looking things ever created, but my Dad always tells me my bike looks like it needs a wax because it's satin black, so who am I to talk about how a bike looks?

Not quite sure why all the venom towards the Suzuki. The Busa's a good bike with a long, solid history so trashing it does no one any good. Is it the world's ugliest bike? No, not by a long shot. So it attracts squids.....so what, you are the one in control of your bike, what do you care if other dufus' ride the same bike? It has certainly earned it's street cred in the performance area. No need to denigrate the bike or the owner just because it isn't a Yamaha FZ1. There is room for everybody.

it's all about throttle control. as long as he's not an idiot, he'll enjoy the hyperbike busa. however, the cbr is a much better bike in every comparable aspect.

Everybody is entitled to state their opinion whether it agrees with others or not. In my eyes there is not an uglier bike, period, but thats my eyes. If the next guy likes them, more power to him. As for "Squids", I've seen them on every kind of bike.

I have always thought the Hyabusa was a cool bike. I was thinking of getting one at one time. I wanted more upright bike that's why I ended up with the FZ1(which I love). i didnt realize how big of a bike they were until I road with a few guys in the hills where we go.You just cant throw them around like the FZ1 of course any straight away over 20 yards and your done..lol

250cc two-stroke or four-stroke?

I also came from the world of Dirt Bikes and the last one I owned was a 1990 YZ250 (two-stroke), so I knew moving to a 600cc or smaller four-stroke street bike would leave me wanting more.

I have managed 2 years on my FZ1 without killing myself. As others say it has to do with control. A person without control can get in as much trouble on a Ninja 250 as they can on a big bike.

As far as the Busa's go, I too think they are kinda ugly. If I was to get a sport bike I would go with an R1 over anything else.

His R6 would have been perfect.

:banghead::banghead::banghead:
I would have gone with the CBR. IMHO, the Busa has to be THE ugliest bike ever produced.

When he see's my bike in the garage he tells me he can't decide what HD he wants, but he loves Busas.

I told him fix up the bargain R6 and start small.

I thought my comment was lacking venom altogether. I think the 'Busa is particularly stupid looking, but that is just my taste. Lots of people think my FZ1 is stupid looking, but I like it. To each their own. Just don't park your 'Busa next to my bike; if ugly is contagious I sure don't want my bike to catch it! :P

I owned a busa for 7 years before I bought the fz1 , I too used to think they were ugly then they started to grow on me ,, yes their big yes their heavy and yes they are awesome ,but you dont realise how much hard work it is to ride till you get an fz1.

Five bikes in each garage.

Another friend, who loves his Yamaha 1300 Sport Tourer says "We should have a garage full of bikes for every occasion."

For me, I would stop wasting commuting miles on the 08 FZ1 and buy a 400cc DP to ride the 7 miles through town to work. The FZ1 would be for weekends in the Sierras and the 4" stretched and lowered Busa or ZX-14 would be my new "Street Rod" for cruising, because one 1969 SS396 El Camino build was enough. The 200cc Aprilia scooter would be for riding through the neighborhood to the store.

This is true!

My first three months of owning the FZ I thought it was huge. A year later its a light weight to flick around the corners in a parking lot.

Lmbo!

Don't feel bad. My wife saw me going down the highway on the FZ. She said I looked like the "Toy" rider sitting upright on a toy motorcycle. WHAT! She thought it was cute. NO WAY! I wanted to trade mine in on an R1 the next day. I am supposed to look "Baddass, like the gang on Mad Max." Cute...oh well.
