Hero 2

Awesome! We'll have to make some new videos in the spring :cheerleader:

The GoPros are tricky to set up at first unless you have the optional LCD viewfinder. You have to guess where to put it and what the image will look like. Once you get the hang of it you just have to make sure it's flashing red to indicate it's on :) The manual will explain all the menu commands and those make more sense after a while as well

Plug and play on the PC

Yes, they are easy to use. I have the LCD backpack, so it makes it easier to use and gives you the actual view to from the shot on the LCD screen. The Wifi backpack will allow you to use the GoPro App to view on your smartphone. To get the video off, I usually use my card reader built into my laptop, but I can also use the USB cable and transfer that way was well.

I use the 720P 60fps for all my action video. That way you can use slow motion and still get smooth video.

I really do not trust the supplied stick on mounts. I lost 2 camera to those things. GoPro hooked me up with a deep discount to replace the first one and completely replaced the 2nd camera free of charge. I use RAM mounts.

Snagged a Hero 2 myself last week from a guy that bought it and never used it. Has the helmet strap, head strap, suction cup, and tripod mount and all sticky mounts. $175. Couldn't pass it up. SD Card and extra Wasabi batteries are on the way from Amazon! Great batteries BTW if you don't know. Search Wasabi Gopro on amazon. $19 for 2 extra batteries and a wall/car charger. Had one for my OG HD Hero and they are fantastic!

I sold my OG Hero HD and missed it tons.

I think the sticky mounts are great and have never had one come off. Must make sure the surface is nice and clean first. I use the suction cup mainly though. I DO use a tether just in case it does fall.

I also have no issue with the cam pointing in an awkward position. It has such a wide angle of field that its got to obviously be pointing in the wrong direction to mess up the shot. LCD viewfinder is a battery hog as well so I personally have no need for it. Plus I dont want to make the camera any heavier or bigger than it already is.

Have fun with it!

We will ride Dustin, well it has the WFI back pack, screen ?? and Battery ? I wrapped it and is't under the tree. Got my helmet a few minutes ago to, wahoo. Happy B-Day and Xmass to me. $175 is better than $199 and tax.

I picked up a Hero 2 in September when they were -$50 everywhere. I guessed there was a Hero 3 coming out soon, but I want more than one camera, so I hope to pick up a 3 sometime also.

I have only used the suction cup mount on my tank. I picked up the LCD so I can make sure the shot is set up right, and then I remove it and put the extra battery on. I bought a 32GB 30MB/s SDHC card just for it. I think the card will hold more than the double batteries will last, but I have a third battery too.

I still haven't removed the video from my card. I don't have decent video editing software, so I need some time to play with it. I'll post some links when I take the time to edit it and put it on YouTube.

Here's a short video of my wife and I on a ferry crossing the OH river from KY to IL. We had just ridden a few hours in the rain (w/o rain gear), needed gas, and a bathroom. I took this with my iPhone 4S. There's a short glimpse of my GoPro on my tank.

OK got all my stuff today, extra Batteries, charger and SD card. Now I see the Hero comes with 2 types of doors. Do you all use the water proof one so no dust gets in there ?

I always use the waterproof one. Never even tried the other one. I like music over my vids anyways. May need to experiment with the other door. I usually get caught in some rain, etc so it is just easier to keep it on.

Believe it or not but the door with the openings in it is recommended for use when you want to cut down on the wind noise while riding. Don't ask me how but I will say that it works. I was using the solid door until Eric told me about using the other and after I switched you can certainly hear the difference in the noise levels.
