Yamaha Crossplane Triple Concept

Yamaha already has a 1050cc triple......it is in their Nytro snowmobile and is a great motor.
In fact on that motor you can get from Yamaha either a MC express super charger of turbo to bump the power to the 225hp range.
About time is shows up in a bike.

Yamaha's last attempt to switch motors between toys didn't go so well. The RX1 didn't last long

FZ1 would at best get the CP R1 motor which may be interesting sound wise but will suck mpg, performance and weightwise. No way Yamaha is going to put the same motor at the same time in both the R1 and FZ1. Last thing they want is to divide and confuse the people between a practical comfy bike vs an aggressive bike with almost equal performance on the street. Aprilia has got guts!

What is the CP R1 motor?

I just know I heard an R1 at the Gas Station and it sounded sooooo good. I was thinking, hey since my bike has a earlier gen R1 motor why does it not sound the same, but firing order and rotations will have a ton to do with that.

Current production/Cross Plane R1.

Yes, that is just a marketing gimmick! Triumph Triples already have crossplane crankshaft necessitated by the triple cylinder design. The same reason why Triumphs don't need a slipper clutch either..
But I don't think that Triumph has irregular firing order, since it sounds like a sowing machine

Yamaha R6 & Yamaha R1 to Get Three-Cylinder Motors?

Looks like a sure bet that the new R6 will be a 675cc triple and the new R1 an 1100cc triple

:wow:

I wasn't expecting that!

So are we to see an 1100cc 3-cylinder FZ1 coming in 2014?

The new engine is not meant for the 600 class. It will be a 900+, and probably it's going in the new FZ1 - unless they're planning a completely new bike. The R1 has already got the hottest engine on the market, why dumb it down to 3 cylinders ?

I agree, the R1 CP will never go in the FZ1, because that would cut into the R1 market share. But, who buys FZ1-s ? Older guys who don't like the fetus position for longer periods of time. So it COULD work .. But now since we know a new engine is on the kitchen table, it's 99% certain that the new 3-cyl (probably CP) will turn up in the gen 3 FZ1.

I'm very happy with inline 4's, but I would have rather seen a V-4 instead of an inline 3. We will see what happens. I just don't care for twins of any configuration on sport bikes... yes, that means you, Ducati and some Aprilia  (big  for the Aprilia V-4)

Yes a V4 would have been very cool .. I can't really see the 3-cyl unveiled at Intermot as a hoax though, unfortunately. It would be quite a smoke screen..
I really hate the Triumph engines .. I really hope the new 3-cyl will inherit the Yamaha DNA, which is top end rush.
