Hi fellow rider,

I'm currently riding a drz 400 sm for over a year know and am targetting the FZ 1N for my next bike real soon- presumably within the next 6 months....there's a thing about insurance prices for those below 25......

So i plan to use it for around town, long rides maybe around 400miles rides occasionally... planning to be cruising around 100mph if road conditions permit...

i like the naked look and am not really taken into the Fz1 S version with the windscreen...im willing to take some wind buffeting...the bikes just ticks the right boxes with me...

Do you owners think this bike will do the job?

Comments highly appreciated!

I have the S model, but have never ridden the N. I'd think the S would be better at 100mph, but if you like the look of the N, I'm sure it will do the job fine, as long as your not traveling 400miles at 100mph.

Good luck with the purchase. I hope to see some pictures as soon as you get it.

Yea. That's the thing. Just by way of personal preference. I just prefer the looks of the N more than the S. definitely the S would be much better at triple digit speeds but I don't mind the N that much. Unless its terribly uncomfortable.

When I eventually do a 400 miles trip I'd definitely break it down to sections as advised. Lol. Thanks for the input!

Riding an unfaired bike at 100mph for any length of time will be majorly uncomfortable. If you are serious about the triple digit riding get the faired version or a fully faired bike. The S and N both have the same handlebars, footpegs, seat and seat position so there will be no difference in comfort in those respects.

I find the opposite. Although I don't have anyplace to sustain 100mph for miles and miles I have found myself cruising at 85-90 for prolonged periods when I visit the U.S. Unlike my FZ6R, which has a fairing similar to the FZ1S, my FZ1N is nice and smooth. Because the windscreen doesn't deflect air toward the bottom of my helmet, airflow over my head is smooth and the buffeting is significantly reduced compared to my FZ6R.
I have had my bike up well past 100mph on a track and find that 100mph or so is the turning point. Faster than that and my hands get tired because I have to hang on to the bar and fight the wind resisitance. That's real high speed sustained stuff, though. My bike feels like I could comfortably motor along all day at or around 100mph and squirt up to higher speeds here and there.
Just my .02

The stock windshield on the Gen II S is awful above 80 mph, but the Zero Gravity Sport Touring is pretty good. Buffeting at the helmet isn't the only concern at 100+. The wind on your chest in a semi upright position will wear you out just trying to hold on. Finding the right shield on the Gen II S for your height is very important.

My FZ1N is awesome for weekend warrior type of rides through the twisties.
I have no trouble keeping up with my sportsbike riding buddies.
Where they pull on me is in the top end, licence losing speed type stuff.
Apart from being really comfortable, I find the best thing about the FZ1N is that when you start getting high up in the rev range, the wind resistance reminds you to slow down a bit.

Interesting inputs guys. Thanks loads! Obviously I'll be day dreaming about it for the next few months but yea.. Getting reviews from actual riders are the best as compared to reviews from journalists....

Who here goes for the bike just purely on looks?lol

I have an S model but do ur thang! thats the beauty of this. This bike is the most fun Ive had in years! plenty of power, handling is good! awesome all arounder. do the mods and shes right on par w most sportbikes!!

Oh yea. Talking about fun and power.. As above I've only ridden a drz 400 with some modest mods. How far different in terms of power, riding style, etc as compared to the fz1? I guess it don't matter be it N or S then...

It would be like comparing a Geo Metro to a Corvette. You are in for a treat! :)

I've owned a DRZ SM, great bikes. The most fun I've had on two wheels

I'd have to agree on that comparison. throttle control is key!

The power is quite civilized, to it's not prone to getting away from you the way some sportbikes can. The power delivery is not abrupt. The power delivery is, however, HUGE! It pulls hard. Forever. And then you shift and it pulls hard. The speedometer climps impossibly fast. If you really open this bike up and let it rev, it is seriously fast. But if you don't, it's a real easy bike to ride. You're going to like it.

So I guess it will be a more torquey character of power then..? Most probably won't even need to downshift when overtaking while cruising in town..? Haha. Thanks for the encouragement!

It won't have the instant grunt your DRZ single does but it still has lots of torque and a massive power kick above 7000 rpm where it really shines :)

Ahh.. I see. So it's a screamer then..? Lol. Well. Every bike has their indiviual peak power range don't they all?

this one starts @ 8000 and climbs like a beast from there. w most of the mods it will easily hoist the front tire skyward!

What's the cost to maintain it then...? I'm not sure if there another threat about maintenance in particular but would appreciate if one exists, share the link here. Hehe. Cheers.
