Hello all, I am looking to either sell My 06 FZ1 or trade for a similar condition 600cc sportbike. I got it in February of this year and made a few upgrades. I got it into the exact condition I wanted but realized that the next necessity (lowering) is a bit too problematic for the Fizzster. I didn't do the airbox/exhaust as I was trying to conserve as much fuel as I could for the commute. I also have a PCIII (not installed)

***The REAL bummer***
I am in Lancaster, ca.
***That sucks***

This board has been amazingly helpful and I wanted to give you first shot. Please send me a PM with any questions.

For the PC3 I'm honestly not sure. A new unit seems to be about $280 on eBay so I'd think maybe $125 or so.

The two most viable options for lowering are the Soupy's and look-a-likes and the Cycle Oneoff dog bones. The Soupy's style seem to break all too often. As for the dog bone my situation is a little specific. I'm 5'5 and my wife is 4'11. When I lowered her F4i and my old R6 I got the brackets that are stock, one inch and three inches. That way I can drop any bike to a full 3 so that she can "comfortably" ride. There doesn't seem to be an adjustable for the FZ1 that doesn't involve breakage and rage. I emailed Cycle oneoff about a custom dog bone but still haven't heard anything.

Really, the other reason I want to downgrade back to a 600cc is my commute. When it was on the R6 and F4i I averaged anywhere from 48 mpg if I rode angry all the way to 53 mpg. On the FZ1 if I am completely behaved I get maybe 39-41.

Realistically, how much money are you going to lose by selling this bike with all the mods you've done and buying another R6 and doing all those mods again? Straight away, I can tell you that $5500 is a lot to ask based on what similar bikes are selling for on this forum.

Unless you're commuting 30,000 miles a year or something, the difference in fuel economy will save you a couple hundred bucks at the very most

You've had the FZ1 for only a few months and it seems like you've dumped tons of money into modding it. It would be a shame to sell it before even having a chance to ride it :)

Actually, the commute is just about 130 miles a day if I go out to lunch or hit a store so it is between 31k and 33k a year. Trust me, I've already had the "Punch self in balls" discussion of the decision.

30,000 miles @ 3.50/gallon @ 40 MPG = $2600 in fuel
30,000 miles @ 3.50/gallon @ 50 MPG = $2100 in fuel

I'm sure that $500 savings will vanish once you dress your new R6 up with blue HIDs and kazoos and whatever else you will do to customise it

Keep the FZ1 :sinister:

The main issue is the lowering, the mpg is secondary at best. To explain: The idea to take the MSF course and buy bikes was my wife's. Because of the magnitude of awesome I decided that I'd never keep a bike that she couldn't ride.

Also, please send me a link to some HID kazoos ... That mess sounds delightful.

Ok, desperation setting in ... Here's an engineering question:
What if I got a 30mm triangle bracket and adjustable kickstand for when I ride
Yamaha Fazer FZ1 FZS 1000 FZS1000 Lowering Kit 06-09 | eBay

And then ADD a 2" Cycle One-off dog bone for when she rides?
Cycle One-off FZ-1

Can I combine a trianlge link AND a dogbone? Or will that create some kind of suspension Baphomet which will take my very bike-soul?

So you want to drop the rear 4"?

The bike will drag everything under it as soon as you hit a bump, and most likely the suspension will not have enough range of motion to deal with that amount of drop anyways.

Hate to be negative, if she cant do it with a 2" drop, find a smaller bike.

Not to mention these things handle like complete shit lowered. I know this for a fact, I had mine lowered for about 300 miles.

See, now I'm glad I asked. So the 30mm triangle (1.1 in) and the 2" link would end up four inches, not three? So I'd be looking at the triangle and a one inch if I want to drop three?

I got the scoops on guyBay (mxc ... hehe) from an English dealer. I should point out the sad truth. They were "Friggen Teal (tm)" and I rattle canned 'em. They were $250, I think.

I suppose that I I could just buy a one inch dog bone and a three inch dog bone. Not sure why I over complicated things with two different types of link ... DERP.
