What a day. How do I even summarise it? It started off well; nice breakfast at my hotel, sunny & warm and not a lot of traffic. I was cruising at a great pace thanks to Oregon's relaxed approach to speed enforcement (by the way Oregon, your state-wide 55 MPH speed limit is stupid). Par for the course as of late!
It was when I first stopped for a snack and fuel when things sort of started to go sour. I was considering cancelling my hotel in Yakima for the night and going straight home. Only considering. I called the hotel and they didn't even have my booking on their computers so I re-checked my booking record and noticed I screwed up and booked it a day too early--ooooooooops! It was at that point I decided to just go with plan B and make an early break for home.
I ripped it through Oregon in no time at all and kept the hammer down all the way to Seattle when I hit gridlock traffic. I spent about an hour and a half putting around until it finally cleared for a bit. At this point I had already done over 450 miles that day and was starting to get a bit sore--then the rain started and it came hard and fast. It was heavy rain and there was tons of spray so everyone slowed down and bunched up like morons. Half the cars on the road didn't even have their lights on so it was a challenge to even work out what was a car amongst the spray.
I kept the hammer down and worked my way through it for 200 agonising miles until I finally hit the border. There was an enormous wait so I opted to go to Burger King to sit it out. Keep in mind, at this point I am completely frozen and soaked from head to toe. After I drained a litre of water out of my boots, I ate some bullshit from Burger King and got in the stupid line.
An hour later, here I am at home!
Yay!
