Ecu question

:hellno: just missed the 2010 one , but am on to a 2008 .

would the 08 be as good upgrade as the 2010 ?? or a vast improvement ??

Thanks again

Still a good improvement over the '06. From '08 - '10 they only tweaked the fuel map and made very small gains in the fuel cut-off. Best to get any of them then send it to an ECUnleashed dealer to get it flashed. Then your bike will have its full potential.

Thanks for all your input guys , one more question may be an obvious one but is the 08 ECU from the FZ1 naked the same as FZ1S . :embarrased:

Thanks again

Should be. I know over in the UK (and other markets) Yamaha uses an ignition immobilizer on the FZ1. Not sure how it ties in with the ECU so you better do your homework before swapping them or bike wont start.

Thanks Njfz1 useful piece of info , from what i can find it seems the ecu is in a virgin form from new , once the red key has been put in the ignition and turned on it then programmes the ecu some way , hope thats wrong or its back to the drawing board :dontknow:

Well i have now found a late ecu for my 06 . Just to confirm to any other uk owners wanting to do this upgrade you do need to get the full lock set as the thing wont start . I did try and proved it wont . Not a bad job to do if you can get the sheer bolts out of the lock . I ended up taking the top yoke off and drilling them out as they where in with loctite .Cant wait to finish and test ride it .

found it on ebay from a breaker . I paid £157 for it witch i didnt think was too much as there are 06 sets on there with buy it now at £350 - £400 (uk sterling ) but they do come with snatchy fueling free ! !

How much improvement do you really think the 08 ecu (or 12 for that matter) is really going to have? Fuel cut and associated snatch is still there. I have ridden my buddies 10 and it's still annoyingly apparent.

It is a LOT less apparent on even the '09 from the '06 and even better on the '10 and up. Of course, if we keep the revs up, there is no cut. ;)

Fuel cut is still there and can be very detrimental to handling particularly when leaned over and reapplying the throttle. I have logged some decent seat time on the 10. I also do have strong memories of the snatch before I modded my 06. Can't say that it was much worse than my buddies 10 but is was a couple of years ago. . . .
After the modding (see my signature) there is most certainly no issue with snatch or power or power delivery. No stock ecu will compensate for the intake and exhaust mods that this bike needs to really breathe. Add the FCE and PC and keep your stock ECU. . . .
If one is not a modder and wants only OEM stuff then a VERY late ECU might appeal but it will likely not be cheap and the fuel cut is most certainly still there. . . .

I don't think anyone would argue that fuel cut is still there when swapping to any ECU but the 2006 model year was significantly worse and each year up to 2010, Yamaha made continuous improvements to the flash to reduce the impact of fuel cut.

With the later ECU and proper tuning, fuel cut can be masked greatly, almost to the point of unnoticeable. Certainly to the point that the $200 for $10 worth of materials on an FCE becomes irrelevant. He'd sell a lot more of those if they were marked up 500% rather than 2000%. ;)

^^^ It isn't with a '10+

+1
I like to ride my bike fairly hard in the twisties, high up in the revs and I have no issue at all with fuel cut on my 2010 model.

It makes a bang but there is next to no snatch on reapplication of the throttle.

I have plenty of mods and thoroughly recommend a custom tune to dial it all in properly.
