Long Distance Commute Bike????

FZ6R.......

been good to me as a commuter/weekend camping getaway!

40-50mpg... plenty of power for the street... easy to work on... doesn't look like Yamaha is dropping her anytime soon...

obviously not a liter bike, tamed way down in power compared to other 600cc... but a good do-it-all bike

Hey the 36th Infantry Division Command Sergeant Major used to ride one. If a "Snake Eater" can ride one, anyone can! He said it would cruise at 90mph!

I had to pick up a set of timing belt (ya... giving that a shot) and a battery for the boss Ducati. Porn bike all over!!! The SF848 flat black was so hot... Speed3 too! Thank God Im broke... for now lol

My dad had a Bergman because he wanted a commuter and couldn't get his leg over a bike anymore due to back problems. He said that he rode two up with my mom cruising comfortably at 85 from Mesa to Payson (65 miles). I guess it has the SV650 motor in there.

I still want a bike out of pride factor, and sometimes my male brain just won't let me be completely reasonable.

But that's a real man who's secure with himself, not everyone is

Haha, my point stands ;)

The Burgman is a great suggestion though. That parallel twin motor was made specifically for it (not from the SV650) it's supposed to be excellent & crazy good on fuel.

You could be a doctor on wheels, highway cruising at 90 mph with zero effort, getting 60 mpg :) I reckon it's even more comfortable at speed than your sexy naked FZ1

Made me laugh. I never said I was man enough. I finally bought a motorcycle this last year after letting everyone else tell me not to for years.

It sucks my dad sold the Bergman just before I got my motorcycle endorsement.

My first bike was a Burgman 400. There is something to be said for the twist-and-go simplicity of a CVT. Copious storage space under the seat, too. I never got comfortable with the cruiser-like, feet forward riding position, though. And the primitive suspension (engine as unsprung weight) was jarring at freeway speeds.

I work with two seasoned motorcycle commuters who love their Silver Wings, though. I've heard good things about the 650 Burgman, too. But for my purposes a 4 gallon gas tank just doesn't cut it. Even the most efficient bikes struggle to make 45 mpg at 80 mph. Maybe I should go electric...

Gary (pilot8127) allowed me to ride his Bergman 650. I'm NOT a small person. I was impressed! :wow: It had quite a bit of power. I followed Gary once when he had the FZ1 and it was hard to keep up. I followed him again when he was on his Bergman 650 and the biggest difference I saw was it topped out around 100. It accelerated well and cornered better than I thought possible.

My biggest complaint was there is no tank to grab with your knees over bumps and hills. I caught air over a few hills and I was secure gripping the tank of the FZ1 with my knees. Not so with a scooter.

I'd love to ride a T-Max sometime. I wouldn't turn a Bergman 650 down. It could never be my ONLY ride, but I could find a place in the garage for one.

 :sport12:

All I can say is I have never ridden a bike that did not put a smile on my face. Some that smile may be a little bigger but they all make me smile! ;)

So true. I had one of these for a day while mine was in the shop. It was a cute little bike, but it made me appreciate mine all the more, for its great suspension and engine. The Triumph made me feel like a giant sitting on it, and the suspension was primitive by comparison to the KTM. Still I had a big stupid grin riding it. I just love bikes.

This will be my choice for a the foreseeable future for commuting and everything else.
