Ivan's New ECU Flash Huge Difference

I have just installed Ivan's new ECU Flash. I must say that my expectations have been surpassed. Here is a list of noticeable changes I've felt:

1. NEW - No requirement for a Power Commander 5; thus, saving you cash. New software has been developed to tune the ECU that much finer.
2. Simple instruction on Ivan's website on how to set your bike up for the flashed ECU.
3. The power is predictable and very linear.
4. Anything after 4500 RPM and the bike lights up all the way to red line.
5. There's no more vibration in the cowl; everything smoothed out.
6. No choppy throttle.

I must warn you though, that speeding tickets will be hard to avoid. The bike is so much more fun to ride now.

You must follow the instructions from Ivan's site and get your TPS reading at the proper voltage. If you are unsure how to do this, take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

All I can say is that I am impressed. I hope this helps.

Ride safe

I have a cyclenut tune and the bike is Very buzzy. I would not have expected this from a tune. What part of the country are you in? it would be interesting to ride back to back.
I may contact Ivan to hear what he thinks.
Anyone else want to chime in??

IronKev, can you better describe "buzzy" ?
I just installed a VC tune and buzzy never came to mind when driving.
Smooth power delivery from the bottom up with no real seat of pants increase in overall power is what I'm feeling.

I bought my bike used with the tune, so I can't really say what a stock bike feels like. I get a definite buzzing in the fairing and honking in the intake. I came of of years on ZRX1200R. The FZ1 has more HP, but lacks the TQ and the smoothness of the 1200 for sure. There's a lot more buzz in the bars for sure. Like 10 times the amount of the Kawi
I'm going to put a call into Ivan and see what he thinks

If you come to my shop in person, you can sample it firsthand.

I have extra ecus and you can either try it in your own bike, or possibly try mine.

Then you should ask for a refund and get the Ivan's tune. Even the old tune with a PC, the difference was night and day. You get what you pay for.

LIke I said, "I bought the bike used". I can't really ask for a refund. I know of Ivan's work as I have been on a ZRX1200R since 2005.

Thanks Ivan. Looks like you're about 100 miles from me . I would def. like to do this, check out your shop and meet a legendary tuner. Maybe I can ride up there this weekend.

Thanks

I’m tempted to do this ECU flash myself. My bike is completely stock and I do not plan to do any other exhaust or engine upgrades. I’m wondering if it’s worth it on an otherwise stock bike?…

Also the downtime is another reason I’m hesitant at the moment…

Hopefully, the tune is good, as it's the only thing that could even lightly make up for the terrible customer service. The FZ1 tune from Ivan's Performance Products costs a very pricey $350, yet as mentioned on a phone call with the shop, the tune takes a "one-size-fits-all" approach that is applied to all FZ1's, no matter the modification. This means that even if you don't choose to modify the airbox, the tune will just end up just running rich instead of actually being adjusted properly to maintain the longevity of your bike. It seems that the shops only goal seems is focused around sending everyone the same tune over and over again to make $350, even though the tune is just uploaded to your ECU in minutes without any level of customization. Overall, I'd recommend looking elsewhere prior to having any motorcycle tuned at Ivan's Performance Products, as the tune won't be tailored to your specific motorcycle. Based on my experience, it feels like if anything goes wrong, it won't matter, as the shop already has your money, so they don't have to take care of you. According to previous reviews, it seems that the poor customer issue has sadly been a problem for quite some time, but the business has been propped up on old forum threads instead of recent accounts.

He's just upset with me because he had trouble following my online tps instructions, and really isn't capable of doing the work. After a while, I lost my patience with him after listening while, and told him he was too "wordy" because he wasn't willing to listen and kept talking on top of me.... His feelings got hurt and here we are.

If you ask a question, be willing to hear and understand the answer.... and don't be disrespectful by talking on top of who you are asking for help.

I don't put up with that BS from anyone for any reason.. and everyone who has done business with me knows that I offer unparalleled tech support and that my products are well researched.

Grow up Allan, stop being a cry baby.... I don't care that your feelings are hurt because you are disrespectful and overly entitled, but I do care about how your bike runs.

So how do you know WHAT tune it has?

I just spent a while on the phone with Ivan this morning. I had his tune from 2019 with the power commander. He went over all the changes that they made to the ecu to get more power, better fuel mileage, smother idle and less twitchy throttle. The ecu flash and power commander tune was good and I really have 0 complaints but I always want the latest and greatest tune. For me the tune is free since I had already purchased a tune in the past. All I have to pay is shipping. Ivan has always been great with any tech questions I have ever had. I have had his jet kit in my 2002 ZRX1200 and my 2001 FZ1 and of course now in my 2012 FZ1. Yes Ivan is old school but if you just listen you can learn something. I appreciate the time he spent this morning on the phone explaining the flash.
I can’t wait until I get it back to feel the difference.

I'm interested in sending my ECU back for the updated flash, it sounds like a good improvement, but I'm not yet comfortably understanding the TPS adjustment instructions so been putting it off. Also, my airbox has been modified for the current tune, so probably need to find an unaltered airbox. The bike's not broke, so no hurry to fix, lol.

The response to my post is a clear representation to the lack of customer service I mentioned, as well as what others have mentioned in previous threads for years.

And "after a while" he says to have lost his patience, yet the entire phone call lasted less than 4 minutes, as seen in the attached screenshot.

As voted in this link, you're better off purchasing from Vcyclenut. The vote is for an FZ09 tune, but is still a great reference on who to go with for the FZ1 as well.

Unfortunately it seems that Ivan's Performance Products won't ever have proper customer service however, as the owner would rather place blame on all of the customers that have a complaint, instead of inflecting on the singular common demoninator.

Free99 is hard to beat for an update, so it's understandable that you'd send it back rather than spending the extra money to go with someone else. For the TPS sensor though, just make sure and be very very careful inserting the sewing needles into the ECU connector. Unfortunately when I inserted the needle just above the yellow wire, the needle went ever so lightly to the right through the soft plastic of the connector and into the blue wire terminal instead of the yellow, so the voltage meter was reading just over 5V instead of 0.665V like mentioned in his instructions. That's actually what I was attempting to ask him about as I tried to follow along, but before I could even explain the above I was cut off like 3 or 4 times and he was quite literally yelling into the phone by the time I explained the situation. Not having a video to walk you through it can make it a bit complicated, so feel free to message me if you end up sending it in and you need any help! Don't worry though, I won't charge you or yell at you for asking a question. Hahahaha

You made your point now go away. Maybe if you would listen and stop trying to talk over everyone like you know it all then things might have been better for you. Coming on here and just bashing because you can’t follow directions is childish and immature.

And you're entitled to your own opinion, just like I am. I just wanted to post my experience so everyone has the opportunity to hear the pros AND (the very significant) cons of getting their bike tuned at Ivan's Performance Products.
