The seal around the drive shaft (where the drive gear sits on the left side of the motor). How much should I pay to have that changed, or should I do that myself?
How much should it cost to repair?

Looks like you can get the oil seal for about $13. I can't imagine it would be that hard to replace. Hardest part will be getting that nut off the sprocket.

is it actually that seal? or the gasket on the plate behind that?? The gasket is FAMOUS for going to crap.... mine did at about 17k

VA - right - they ordered the two pieces - I think they suggested 1-2 hours work (I guess that's at what $65/hour?)
Interesting to hear you say that the gasket is 'notorious'. Makes me feel better about it anyway. It runs like a scalded ape, so I guess it's not hurting anything. But I have to get it changed before my weekend ride.

if they ordered the gasket and the seal.... pick up the parts and do it yourself... it's not hard...
