Givi / Watsen combo

The next winter project is already underway. It will be an expensive winter at this rate, hopefully a short one !!!
This time I am replacing the rear stock signals with Watsen Design flushmounts (Black). I will be useing the mounting brackets that are provided on the Givi Monokey racks for my V-35 bags. I have lights in the bags(Admore lighting) but wanted signals for when I ride without the bags (rarely). I though about just going with an LED combo tailight like Clear Alternatives unit. The problem is that in order to stay legal in the two most common jurisdictions that I ride in they had to be a minimum distance apart and visible from back and side. The solution that I came up with was after a few ideas were thrown out. I did not want to cut or drill any bodywork and it had to be virtually unnoticable when done. This way the unit and attachment will all be neat and unabtrusive. A bonus, my Yamaha factory FZ 1 cover will fit again. The cover is too form fitting to pull over the stock rear signals on the Givi extensions.
I made a quick sketch of what I wanted and sent it off to Roger at Watsen Design. He told me that it was no problem and made a suggestion about the custom unit. Now we wait.

Hi Oldschool,

Thanks for your info on the Watsen flushmounts. I have already ordered a pair for the rear.

It seems you have a similar setup to mine, except the Givi signal mounts are different.
I am hoping I can mount the flushmounts on the original tail holes and then remove the ugly Givi mount.

Plr-x

Yes the racks that you have are the newest version, called the PLR-X. If I am correct the rack quickly removes using a supplied key, with the only thing remaining being the small metal pieces that stick down through the underside of the tail. Your idea of useing the stock signal holes on the fender should work perfectly. They won't be visible from the side with the bags on though, but should be great from the back. Check out the http://www.admorelighting.com
for lights that hook into the V-35 bags. They fit under the red lens in the bag lids and are easy to install.

Molasses in February?

Well I finally heard back from Roger at Watsen Design. It is Two and a half months later (since ordering) and he sent me an e-mail apologizing about the delay and telling me it would be another two weeks. Apparently he has been swamped with orders. I told him no problem, as it was not like I am going to be riding anytime soon anyway. I still feel that it will be worth the wait, and it was a custom order after all.
Begining of march I will post pictures of the project.

Yea, I'm sure he's got a lot of work since the riders up North can only dream of riding and instead buy parts. We just had 14" of snow dumped on us yesterday :(
