I've got a 2006 FZ1 which is a great motorcycle. 6 months ago, I replaced my old-school lead-acid battery with a LiFePO4 (Doukas DKL 14) battery, which has been a great decision; much better than lead-acid! However, yesterday I left the FZ1 with headlights on overnight and it did a full discharge on the LiPOF4.
I removed the battery and put in the old lead-acid (fully charged), and to my dismay, the terminal heated up quick so much that I could not continue holding it in place, but there was no sparking. So I measured the ohms across the +/- cables without the battery and the measurement was near zero ohms (3-5 ohms). This measurement was with the key out of the ignition switch and also with the key in, with the ignition turned on. So it seems that the battery cables are shorted-circuited. Not sure whether the short-circuit caused or was caused by the full discharge
Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas? I've got the schematics and service manual, but I would like to know what the most likely places for a short to exist are in order to prioritize my circuit tracing. How would you approach this fix? I really appreciate any advice in advance.
BTW, the LiFePO4 recharged fully and doesn't seem have any damage.
