I have been a long time fan of the FZ1 platform, and have sold several people on buying one for themselves, and always got to ride theirs. 
Today, I finally bit the bullet and bought my own.
I have owned almost 50 motorcycles since 12 years old (now 44) including minibikes, dirt bikes, scooters, cruisers, UJMs, Cafe Racers, and several sport bikes. My favorites have always been the big CC bikes, and of those I felt really at home on my GSX-R750, the Yamaha R1 was a close second, and a ZX-11 probably 3rd. The only other bike I currently own is a 2005 KLR650, and I mainly use that to bomb around with my kids when they're riding their dirtbikes.
I was considering buying an FZ1 for the last several years, and found two really good candidates locally. Winter pricing found me a 2007 FZ1 (raven black) with a slip-on and a few other farkles listed for $4499 at a dealer about an hour away. Called them up and had them text me pics, as I didn't want to make the drive if I didn't like it. I also found a private seller selling a 2001 FZ1 in typical Yammie blue with a tick over 37k miles. I'm a sucker for blue...
Anyway, this one was recently serviced with a new clutch, new tires, new brakes and a new chain. Being 6 years older I figured it would be a little beat up. On the way out to the dealer, I decided I would stop by the private guy, and see what his looked like. The bike is in great shape. Still has nubs on the tires, chain is perfectly lubed, brake pads are new, no cracks on any of the plastics... He let me take it for a ride, and although it was a little cold-blooded at first (it was about 40°F out), it still ran great. And improved from there! It has been EXUP deleted it looks like, but still runs buttery smooth.
I picked up this gem with an expandable rear bag, battery tender and a cover, for the amazing price of $2700. I think I did great. It definitely needs some spit shine, and a polish, but I am extremely happy to finally have one of these for myself.
