Crankshaft Whining

Flywheel bearing seized up and made my crankshaft wobble thus wearing away some of the gearing on the crankshaft now it makes a whining noise that gets higher potched in higher rpms. Anyone else ever have this happen? Any chance the teeth may wear back in? Anyone ever had a crankshaft go while riding? Also is ther any way to fix this without buying an entirely new motor?

Never had it happen. The right way is to do a lower end rebuild. Could be a fun project. Not easy for small job even for a mechanic.

Very well done Youtube video of a complete Gen 1 rebuild without the stupid loud music. DeWoody's" Shop. Good tutorial on valve adjustments as well. Multiple episodes to cover the entire rebuild.

Personally I think anyone who's not an experienced mechanic would be better off buying a complete used well running Gen 1 for $2500-$3000 and parting out all the good stuff from your current bike. If your tank, tail, forks and fairing are all in good shape there is easily $1500 back. The remaining stuff will easily get you another $750 but may take more time to move.
