Accidents or near misses?

I just found out yesterday that one of my main riding buddies had been involved in an accident with his truck. I talked to him and he admitted that he had been looking at his phone. He looked up, saw he was in the opposite lane and a semi was coming at him. He aimed for the left ditch and the semi swerved towards his left lane. The vehicles hit about two feet off the passenger corners of the vehicles. Had they hit head on square or on the drivers side, buddy would most likely be dead! He suffered a broken rib. Semi driver was uninjured.
Frickin' cell phones!
This kind of incident involving a biker would likely end in a dead biker!
I passed this info on to my kids, hoping that it sinks in. I'm not without blame for using my phone either but I do use the hands free as much as possible and i can ignore text while driving.

That's a damn shame. I hope he learns from his lucky break and puts that phone away from now on.

I'm glad he escaped unscathed and can go home to his family. I gotta shake my head when people do shit like this.

Thanks for sharing, RangerG.

I was in an accident/near miss about 6 months ago.

I hate lazy people that cut corners. I should have avoided this but was just not paying enough attention.

Lady driving stopped and was cited for improper left turn and her insurance cover everything.
I will not ride without a camera now.

What I learned from this is that surprises happen and you need to be ready for them.

Wow, you are fortunate that lady stopped. I have been riding with my GoPro on at all times for the last 3 years now just in case something like this happens.

Close call. Things get real at ~3:45.

Was that you?

This is one of the closest calls I have had. This person never thought to look for a motorcycle splitting, they just saw a gap and dove for it. I was fortunate I was going as slow as I was and had time to dodge him.
