180/55/17 or 190/50/17

anybody running on 180/55/17 as to what the manual says the 19/50/17 would welcome feed back.

55s are fine. It raises the rear a bit and provides for faster turn in. I plan to try a pair of 55s next time I get a set. Like VA said it needs to be 190 for the GenII. 180s on the GenI.

OK, lets do this again. Per tire manufacturer's specifications, you can run a 180 on a 6 inch rim. Those manufacturers are Dunlop, Michelin, Avon, etc.... I personally run a Michelin Pilot road 2 180/55/17. I like it because it has better turn in than the 190/50 and has lower reciprocating weight. My bike has all the mods, makes over 150hp, and I have never had traction issues. So everyone hears it the first time this time JUST MY OPINION

per what tire manufacturer's specs? lets see a source on that one.

Also... Yamaha puts a 190 section width tire on the bike. They spend literally million of dollars on research and development. Race teams for Yamaha, in order to get a quicker turn in use a 190/55 tire to replace the 190/50. Both on a 6" wheel.

^^^ My 1125R came with a 180 Diablo IIIs stock and worked great. That bike made about 85 foot pounds of torque, much more than our bike, and I had no traction issues at all. I think a 180/55 will work fine.

Race teams for yamaha also make a bunch more power than anyone on here, and do you really think that they put a 190 on only for performance? Ya don't think it may have just a teensy bit to do with this stupid obsession for a huge back tire?

Copied from Dunlop's website for Sportmax Q2, acceptable rim width for 180/55 tire is EITHER 5.5 inches or 6.0 inches. I am not telling anyone what to use, and I am not telling anyone they are wrong. I am giving my preference in tire based on turn in and reciprocating weight savings.

I don't mean to sound testy about this, but we have been through this before and for the tenth time THIS IS MY OPINION. If you think I am an idiot ignore me

Thank you for your opinion Hellgate!
