Thanks Whitmore for the wise tip. I'm getting a little more comfortable with splitting lane here in California worse highway (101). It's bumper to bumper all the way home. I only do it when speed is 30 MPH or less. I been reading that its more dangerous if I don't split lane when possible...

Thanks for the tips. I want to be a rider that don't end up being another statistic. I'm learning to be a rider than can commute to work and around town safety, and can take trips on mountainous road to the beach or camp sites. I don't have any intention to become a pro racer or gungho rider.

Congrats!! I bought my 2001 FZ1 in Yamaha Blue two months ago....it was my first bike. Never rode a motorcycle before. I started riding to work for the last 3 days now....I do ok, but the heavy traffic on freeway on the way home is terrible....especially when the weather is 90+.

By this, you mean shift down and adjust the clutch and make it act like a 3rd brake?

I keep hearing keep the RPM low while traveling fast....do you mean to shift it in top gears 5/6 and it will lower the RPMs??

Hi RennGent, Glad to meet someone who is going through the exact same predicament. Too bad we are not neighbors otherwise we can go practice and learn from each other. I also took it on the highway last night doing about 60mph...for only 2 miles stretch then decided that's enough for now...

The first ride was very nerve racking and fun at the same time.....After each ride, I get less and less nervous as I learn the behavior of the bike and MOSTLY my own bad behaviors. I'm adjusting to the mistake I make such as braking too hard and shifting smoothly. I'm glad I kept this...

A quick update. Now that I've completed my MSF class and start riding my bike....here is a pic of my bike sitting outside of the living-room and parked in the backyard now. :)

Thanks for scaring the crap out of me GDCPONY. I'm a new rider as you are aware, but I can see from this video that even the most experienced rider cannot avoid a lot of situations.

Hey Evitzee, I just picked up a Deltran Battery Tender Plus! for 64.99 + tax. Charging my brand new battery now. The guy at the shop told me new battery only comes %80 charged and I will need to charge it to %100 with a battery charger.

Harvey Albertson? Actually, I meant car passed me on a straight away...not at the light. :) I'm not ready to tread the lane and get in front of the line at stop light yet. One thing I learned from MSF is to ride within my limitation.
