Thanks Dustin and Klurejr. I still get nervous each time I'm sharing the lanes. Almost everyday I hear on the news there is a motorcycle accident on HWY 101 where I commute each day.

Thanks Klurejr!! San Jose, California has one of the worse bumper to bumper traffic during commute hours and I have been getting a lot of experiences riding between the lanes. I can remember not so long a go when I was looking and searching for route to take home to avoid this scene...as I...

Bought a 2001 FZ1 a week ago. Very pleased with my new machine.

Thanks Whitmore for the wise tip. I'm getting a little more comfortable with splitting lane here in California worse highway (101). It's bumper to bumper all the way home. I only do it when speed is 30 MPH or less. I been reading that its more dangerous if I don't split lane when possible...

2002 FZ1 for my first bike

Thanks for the tips. I want to be a rider that don't end up being another statistic. I'm learning to be a rider than can commute to work and around town safety, and can take trips on mountainous road to the beach or camp sites. I don't have any intention to become a pro racer or gungho rider.

2002 FZ1 for my first bike

Hi everyone, Just a quick update on my riding experiences so far. It's been a little over a month since I started riding my 2002 FZ1 just about everywhere....hardly drive the car anymore. I'm starting to get used to riding in heavy rush hours. Once I weasel my way out to the carpool lane...

Bought a 2001 FZ1 a week ago. Very pleased with my new machine.

Congrats!! I bought my 2001 FZ1 in Yamaha Blue two months ago....it was my first bike. Never rode a motorcycle before. I started riding to work for the last 3 days now....I do ok, but the heavy traffic on freeway on the way home is terrible....especially when the weather is 90+.

By this, you mean shift down and adjust the clutch and make it act like a 3rd brake?

2002 FZ1 for my first bike

Hi RennGent, Glad to meet someone who is going through the exact same predicament. Too bad we are not neighbors otherwise we can go practice and learn from each other. I also took it on the highway last night doing about 60mph...for only 2 miles stretch then decided that's enough for now...

2002 FZ1 for my first bike

The first ride was very nerve racking and fun at the same time.....After each ride, I get less and less nervous as I learn the behavior of the bike and MOSTLY my own bad behaviors. I'm adjusting to the mistake I make such as braking too hard and shifting smoothly. I'm glad I kept this...

    A reality check video

Thanks for scaring the crap out of me GDCPONY. I'm a new rider as you are aware, but I can see from this video that even the most experienced rider cannot avoid a lot of situations.

    I did it guys!! But now my 2001 fz1 won't start....need help!!

Harvey Albertson? Actually, I meant car passed me on a straight away...not at the light. :) I'm not ready to tread the lane and get in front of the line at stop light yet. One thing I learned from MSF is to ride within my limitation.
