    Hello

I suggest that the stock GEN II spring rates are close to being correct for your riding weight with the '06 being slightly stiffer. At 250+ you are in the upper range of the spring rate and expect to ramp up preload. Ditto on the above mentioned frame issues on the '06-'07s. The OEM shocks are...

    Handlebar swap - Renthal?

GENII: Pro Taper Honda Mini. Narrower than most but you're not riding a steer! Helps with lane splitting . . . m14 x 1.5 tap and the stock bar ends fit fine.

    Deals Gap Rally June 13th - 16th 2024

Look forward to seeing the 'old' crew. Just purchased a house in the mountains. 5 miles away, as the crow flies, 32 miles as the wheels turn. I guess the last gather I attended sold me on the area and the people.

    Battery or drain?

Re-check the voltage across the new battery at 5,000 RPM. If it is not above 14 volts, there may be issues with your new alternator or voltage regulator.

    Battery or drain?

Invest $7 in a Harbor Freight digital multimeter (if you do not already have one.) Disconnect the battery ground wire(s). (no key in the switch) Set the multimeter to the 5 amp setting and connect the black lead to the COMmon jack and the red to the Ohms ma jack. Simultaneously touch the red...

    The Island of Dystopia

"We are living in unprecedented times, think accordingly." For those who want a viable theory, read Niel Howe: The Fourth Turning - An American Prophecy (1997 co-authored w/Bill Strauss) and The Fourth Turning is Here (2023). Going to be very interesting . . .

    Lowering link question............

Looks like someone was practicing touch 'n goes for their pilot's license! Also the parts in the photos appear to be made of aluminum. To my recollection, the OEM parts are dark coated steel. Where these lowering replacements or swapped? They are very similar looking to '04-'06 R1 and as such...

    Upper triple clamp

Sorry to say, the R1 has a different head angle and offset (24 vs 25 degrees). The angle of the tubes in the upper and lower triple is different enough that you cannot swap between the two (R1-FZ1) without stressing the clamps. That being said, you can swap the full R1 triple headset ('07-08)...

Gen II R1 Shock 2015+ Install guide

The no-mod adapter I fab (Version 4) is for '04-'08 R1 shocks only. The major problem with R1 shocks produced after that (includes '15+) is the higher placement of the nitrogen reservoir in relation to the upper shock eye. As said, installation of the '15+ R1 shock is relatively simple. First...

    Headlight Help

Occam's Razor. Clean, grease & reseat all the wire connectors including the cluster, fuses, switch, headlights and relays. Check the frame ground for tightness & corrosion. If that does not fix the problem, check for wire breaks at connectors and pinch points.

Need help with the R1 wheel conversion and what bearing kit to buy? R1 or FZ1

The R1 sprocket carrier is slightly narrower than the FZ1 presumably due to the difference in the R1 frame and swingarm. The R1 wheel itself is the same on certain years (2004-2012). Check the parts fiche. I suggest that if you use the FZ1 parts (bearings,, spacers, collars, etc.) you won't have...

    2007 FZ1 55’s on back instead of 50’s

Erk, Timeout! The tire profile is designed (rubber characteristics, reinforcing strand wrap/angle, etc.) for a specific width rim. Unless you have a GEN I or purchased an old Satan machine with an R6 wheel conversion, you are running a tire (180/55) designed for a 5.5" rim on a 6" rim. Not a...

    Suspension Setup

What year FZ1? Street comfortable? Fast? Track? Factory engineers design for a particular market and typical rider. The US Market FZ1 seems to favor middleweight to heavy riders. The 2006 GEN II was the stiffest. 2007 & later appear to favor those in the 220-240# range. Unless you are riding...
