    2014 Yamaha Street Lineup

I didn't like the bike, but surprised FZ8 is red-lined for 2014, but replaced with FZ-09 three-cylinder. How does FZ-09 stack up against Triumph Street Triple? ...Seems to be aiming for that market.

    difficult hot start

Had same problem on my '11. Idle was too low. Check manual. Have my hot idle at 1100 rpm now; Cold Idle at 1250. No problems.

    Z-1 Hot Seat

Doing bunch of rides with Patriot Guard Riders lately and noticed how uncomfortable and HOT my FZ1 seat becomes after 1-hr!!! By HOT, I mean my bum feels like its cooking. Went on line to vet aftermarket seat for pilot and passenger, gagged at prices [Corbin]. Any recco's?

    FZ8 Hatred

Rode and considered FZ8 when I purchased my FZ1. I was riding and traded an '08 FZ6. I liked the FZ8 and may have bought one if I hadn't owned an FZ6. There wasn't a big difference between the two bikes handling or power although I thought the FZ8 had a more comfortable seat. FZ1 is...

    Clunky box, is this normal

The Clunk...CAY-LUNK....going into 1st is a Yamaha quirk. Not as bad on a Z-1 compared to the clunk going into 1st on a FZ6!

    Intermittent starting problem

Checked gas lines for crimps AND adjusted idle. Was running 900-1k rpm's with engine warmed. Seems fellow FZ-ers like to see 1.2K to 1.3k rpm idle. See what happens.

    Intermittent starting problem

Intermittent problem showing up now in this warm weather. 2011 Bike w/5.2k miles turns over & starts fine when cold. When bike's warm and ridden good miles & turned off, when I start up bike again, bike’s starter turns over fine, but bike doesn’t fire up, almost like it’s flooded. Turn...

Your favorite Summer Boots and gloves?

Believe it or not the best summer riding gloves for me are baseball batter gloves. Cheap. Works for cycles and for horse riding.

Former Fz6 rider, looking at getting Fz1, advice/help????

There is room for caution here. Any 1-litre bike puts you in a different club. Both the FZ1 and FZ6 are easy-to-ride bikes IMHO, but FZ1 is everything a FZ6 is, plus a little more. Apparently you had judgment problems with your FZ6 and committed rider error. From what I glean you showed poor...

    Fz1 a good first ride?

I wouldn't suggest FZ1 as a first bike. Unless you're extremely gifted on the gas and clutch relationships you'll loose control. I owned a FZ6. I wouldn't call it a good first bike, either. IMHO both bikes handle about the same, but FZ6 has a trick clutch. Both have beaucoup de hp...

What is the best tire pressure?

I use 38/42. I seem to need those two additional lbs on front tire to avoid un due wear. Likely reason is my riding position and 180-lbs body weight.

    NY Uber Speeders

GeeWhiz Information, Folks: Been a rash of high speed chases in Upstate New York within last six-weeks. One guy was clocked at 166 mph, another at 193 mph. Both bikes were Suzuki's. ....Real live Road Warrior scenes. Both Uber Speeders were *noticed* by State Police on Thurway around...

    Riding in the rain sucks

Made a short Saturday ride in early May to help a buddy move. forecast'd: Isolated showers, Temps mid-50's. Solid downpour 15-mins from home. Got my rain gear on in time, but had to ride additional 40-minutes. Discovered Rain gear needed more waterproofing as it *seeped* water. Ride...

    Too Much Bike?

As previous bloggers wrote you should be OK. FZ1 is easy bike to ride. It's quick, but not scary. The power is certainly there, but use your head.

extreme ripoff or is the dealer right???

Presently there are Yamaha incentives knocking $1250 off 2011 FZ-1 models without haggling. When I bought my FZ1 I researched dealer prices within 150-miles, took the low and the high prices, with four prices in between then averaged. Gave me a realistic idea of a buying price. Many...
