Help finding a steering damper kit under $150.00

It depends on your bike setup. Stock is very stable. If you are dropping the front in any way and raising the rear along with it, it's a great safety feature to have. I'm 1" up on the rear and 1/2" lower in the front. She can be unsettled if I lift coming out of the corner and don't land perfectly straight... but with the GPR installed, I don't even think about it any more. ;)

well, I just want to be as safe as possible; So basically you think there is no need for one on the FZ1 ?

I can't say from experience as I've never owned your generation of FZ1, only the 01-05. It certainly seems to be a sweeping consensus on the forum that they are not necessary for the bike in stock trim.

Never experienced head shake 2008 gen 2,forks are rised 12mm through T/ Tree & standard 17-190-50 rear tyre, plenty of other things to spend your money on, unless you are doing alot of track time.

I have 15mm lower R1 forks on the front and raised 5 mm in the rear over stock.
I don't see the need for a steering damper for street riding, my bike is stable as.
The longish wheelbase allows you to play a fair bit with geometry settings.

how do i check to see if my bike is lower on the front and higher on the rear, sorry it might be a stupid question but i rather ask:bowdown:

Even stock if you pull out of a corner HARD and keep pushing I think it would be nice to have a damper... but I don't want to spend 500 dollars on a GPR even though they look hawt.

If you find one for 150 let me know ;)

I wouldn't think a normal dampener would lock up if it is just a piston and oil right?

My experience with my 2007 FZ1 in stock trim or setup much like FZ1inNH's bike, it has been rock stable. I ride my bike hard on crappy roads and power wheelie over the crest of rises and push it a bit. Never once has it more than wiggled as the wheel returned to center. Anytime the front end gets light enough to allow the forks to fully extend, your gonna get some wiggle. That's your shift indicator! Or it's letting you know hooligan one wheel antics are just a throttle test away. Either way, this 165 lb guy has ridden 2 other Gen II FZ1s, both with R1 front ends with much more aggressive handling, and they were also stable. The turn in QUICK.

I took the cheapskate route.

Take one 2nd hand R1 damper for $25, buy a fork clamp from china $20 (54mm on the GenII). Make a triangular plate, drill 3 holes for 3 bushes and bolt it under the steering stem/above the radiator (remove the two existing bolts) and fit it up there...

AN OEM damper kit for under $50!

I just order the damper and the fork clamp, can you give me dimensions on the triangular plate and a list of the reminder hardware please. its my first time doing this so all the help will be greatly appreciated :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

I bought a cheapy, Chinese, Ebay one and it broken within weeks. So much for a deal...

My advise is to save up for a good one and only spend your money once.

The fork clamp for my XV920R cracked. Keep an eye on it.

Could one of these just be mounted to the tank bolt behind the neck of the frame, then a clamp on the fork..? Or is that unstable...

Edit:

exactly like this: http://www.yoyodyneti.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=K 15.YA10.14

I doubt this thing is anywhere near worth the 470 advertised price. I saw something similar on flea bay for 240 I think. Then of course there are the "universal kits" which are 35 dollars or so.

I am interested in how the fork mount fits on there. I have never had a bike other then a dirt bike with a damper, and I can't recall how it attached to the triple clamp.
