Thanx...I think the tech was just as curious as I was.

This doesn't work with US models.
I had a dyno run this afternoon and I talked with the tech after my run and told him about this thread. He let me switch modes and then do another 5th gear and all gear run and, he didn't even charge me for the 2nd run!
The results:
Solid light: 143.11 HP / 71.29 Torque / 168.27 max spd
Blinking light: 144.26 HP / 71.58 Torque / 169.31 max spd
Well done! That's really great to know. Thank you so much for investigating. I wonder, though, if it changes the low end torque and hp at all. Would it be possible to post the dyno charts?
Did anyone ever figure out what it does to the UK spec model? Seeing as we don't have the 106bhp restriction that other posters have...?
I went through the menu today and changed it to the flashing light...
Not sure if its my imagination but it seems the mid range is a bit punchier and it seems to get up to speed quicker.
Thanks for the interesting thread!
Nix. are yours FZ1-N.
My ride is the 2009 FZ1-N. Not sure it willwork. Anyone?
A little light on the subject from the FZ1's mother land JAPAN.
There has been, since the late 80's - think GSXR1100 \\"Widow Maker\\", a gentlemen's agreement between the transport authority, police and manufacturers to restrict large capacity bikes to 100hp or less after a string of almost always fatal accidents. So if you walked into a dealer showroom, you would not be able to buy a full power model of anything that produced over 100hp. Many manufacturers instead took alternate routes by limiting rpm or choking the intake. And most retuned the mapping, intake valves and spark to beef up low end torque. This is where the Galapagos like CB1300-specs- came from.
Private dealers on the other hand re-imported overseas models and sold them in their full power guise as they were not manufacturer dealers but sane people who made good money selling what the gentlemanly manufacturers wouldn't and real riders wanted.
This gentlemanly agreement continued until earlier this year but many manufacturers are still pulling the line to maintain affiliated backdoor reimporting dealers. For example, in 2007 the FZ1 was not available as a domestic model. Only on reimport which I bought, a Canadian model.
In 2008 they released a domestic model with 95hp@9000rpm and a supposed improvement in low down throttle response and torque characteristics. Just felt lame to me on a test ride. However they marketed it as sporty handling, lightweight R1 derived tourer. Fortunately. we can still buy a full power model through the previously mentioned parallel non-manufacturer labelled dealers.
Apparently France, Malaysia, Thailand etc also have a power restriction of sorts that would make it economically feasible to produce 2 specs of the same bike. As a manufacturer, trying to limit costs, it would make sense to let software adjustments rather than expensive and unique hardware tooling take care of the power difference. Thus the secretive code work and leaking of the input coding that is beginning to pop up.
And Yes what you say is true about the manufacturers agreement about horsepower limits. But that applied to the upper end of the power in the top sportbikes, that agreed that no machine would exceed 200 hp not 100hp. This obviously does not apply to the FZ as it is not Marketed to be the fastest thing that Yamaha sells.
Well kids I'm sorry 100% stock minus an air box mod with and with out the blinky is the SAME HP. There is NO diffrence between the 2 AT ALL.
pulls 1 is non blinky light
pulls 4 is blinky light
Pull 6 is super dooper blink light lol.
