Anyone have experience with Throttlemeister?

Looking for some feedback to decide if it's worthwhile. My arthritis is acting up in my right hand and it would be nice to soften the throttle spring tension. I used a WandaCruise back in the day to hold the throttle but this gizmo looks better.

Thanks

I have them and work very well. They are heavier than the stock bar ends so they cut vibration down a little more. Very good quality, They also give you some different size washers to you can get the throttle lock to work perfect. I'm running them with Oxford heaters and no issues.

I had one on my Sprint ST. It does as advertised, but I really didn't use it. I don't like to feel disconnected from the throttle. I also have arthritis in my hands and neck. For me, the only acceptable solution is fatter grips and more frequent stops to get my hand "unbent". Some have tried the little "wrist rests" that clip on to the throttle grip but I think they just get in the way.

But, if the idea of the throttlemeister appeals to you, they do work. This product does look promising, as it is supposed to automatically free the throttle when you apply the brake.

That looks nice but I have two issues with it. 1. Price, 2. It eats up grip space.

That is similar to other throttle clamps but with a really ingenious release and looks very easy to use. I may just have to think about that one.

The reason I'm interested in the Throttlemeister or Kuryakyn assist is that those are bar end style so you still maintain the full width of the grip.

I do have a "Cramp Buster" and yes, it does get in the way. Also the problem with this is that the focus of my sensitivity is at the base of my thumb which is irritated by the wider busters and the edge of the narrower ones irritates my palm. I can't win going this route.

Have you tried a larger diameter grip? For touring I like Grip Puppies. They make a big difference for me.

I'm uncertain if the diameter is the problem. It is more of the pressure on the grip that causes an issue not the wrap around of my hand, however, it is an inexpensive alternative to try.

If the grips have "grip", the greater diameter allows you to put pressure on them with the whole hand, rather than tensing the hand by curling it into a tighter circle. You don't have to hang on as tightly. There is a thread somewhere about cutting the throttle springs to lighten resistance. I had that done when I had my carbs jetted.

Eltigre1, you just gave me a great idea. I have tennis racquet grip tape that I used to adjust the size and surface of my racquet. I can wrap a layer or two around the throttle grip to increase the diameter and still have a waterproof, tactile and cushioned surface.

I have them on my Bandit and absolutely love them. Super easy to use, can chop the throttle when on cruise easy. Heavier, so vibration is a little less. Really like them.

I didn't like the "Grip Puppies". The rubber came off on my gloves and they wore out in short order. And, I really don't like the feel of foam grips. I have seen several wraps that look promising, but I think I had a moment of rare genius this morning. I discovered these grips that slide over Harley billet grips. I'm thinking they should slide right over my 7/8" bar grips and provide a solid, large-diameter grip. I'll post results when I get them installed.

Had a Throttlemeister on my FJR, mixed results in my experience. Quality is great and installation is easy, the adjustment of it was a bit fussy to get it set up iniatially, but my biggest gripe was in using it. You have to reach over with your left hand to turn the control on, you can't really do it with just your right hand, so I found that awkward. I wouldn't buy it unless you do really long strafes at constant speed (like an Interstate), it isn't amenable to any sort of fine throttle adjustment. On the FZ1 I use the Cramp Buster and that is fine, it is easy enough to rotate out of the way when I need better control in traffic.

I have a brand new one in the box. I tried installing it but because I have heated grips the release didn't work properly. So if you have heated grips I wouldn't recommend it.

Just pulled the trigger on a pair of Grip Puppies.

They are going over a pair of Oxford heated grips (I know..... but after owning a Beemer with heated grips, I won't ride without them again).

I have a recurring problem where I get numbness in the right hand (presumably because I'm gripping the throttle too tightly).

I'm hoping the Grip Puppies will cushion the grips enough that I don't get the dreaded pins 'n needles from gripping too tightly.

Also hoping that I get enough heat through as well.... :dontknow:

Not sure why you would have to use your left hand. I adjust mine with my little finger on my right hand. They turn in quick and don't take much movement to lock the grip. Maybe it was an issue on the FJR but on my FZ1 not a problem.

I had the Vista Cruise on my old GS1100. I really liked being able to "lock" the throttle and rest my hand.

I have noticed that I get right hand cramps on all my bikes except the XV920. That has the highest bar/seat relationship. I'm not sure if that is the reason, or if the spring is lighter on the cards??? Odd.

On a side note, I been dealing with Tennis Elbow for the past three months. OUCH. It's not impacted my cycling or motorcycling yet, but it makes everything else very painful. The cause? Mousing on my laptop....

I use a "Cramp Buster" all the time. This device features a tab that protrudes from the rear side of the grip. Positioning can be adjusted. After getting used to it, it minimizes the amount of torque needed to keep the throttle open. About $10.

And then on long trips, I occasionally use an N.E.P. throttle lock. It can be adjusted so that it is just tight enough to hold the throttle open. I find that by dropping the right hand down beside me for a minute every hour or so, will keep the circulation going better, and be less tiring. About $18.

I haven't done this, but with some talk about grip size, what about using the cushioned wrap material that is used on road bicycle handlebars? It stretches a little, so that when wrapped it stays tight, and could be used to substantially increase grip size, while adding padding to the grip. About $20.

I agree that it can be kinds a pain to set up and use (use left hand to set then the occasional adjustment while driving). Not too big a deal but I usually only use it on multi hour trips. same with the cramp buster I don't usually find the need for them on most rides.

On my Triumph Rocket 3 I put large ergo grips and that were nice but not worth the premium they cost but that's my opinion for most mods, and I have lots.

Today I went out for a three hour ride. No hand problems. I guess I bruised the fleshy part of my right thumb and resting on the cramp buster aggravated it causing inflamation and the pain. I took off the buster and that helped.

Today it was fine even my left hand with carpal tunnel (I wear a splint on that hand). Soon that will be history because my doc gave me the referral for surgery.

Thanks for all the responses.
