Install a 39 tooth R1 or 44 tooth gen 1 rear sprocket to lower your rpm at cruising speed. Stock is 45t rear and 17t front. I'm not sure how small that you can go without shortening the chain. I raised the gearing on my gen 1 and still have lots of power on take off. We are talking about...
Just buy a cheap used can and rework it to suit. They are often free, since no one wants to offer much or pay for shipping. This way, you can experiment without loosing the ability to put things back to stock if like it. You also have little down time.
I replaced the stock bars with Bike Master Daytona bars. They have less pull back and they are higher also. I had to drill holes for the controls and install bar ends that expand inside the end of the bars. They are great for an old guy like me and vibration isn't an issue.
It is jetted lean stock at the low end to pass emissions. It is rich stock at the high end to allow for after market exhaust etc. Rejetting the mains, raising needles and opening the idle screws optimize the setup. Mileage on the gen1 is about the same after rejetting for me, but performance is...
I have had great luck buying and selling on CL in SA. I think it has a lot to do with where you live. Very large cities seem to have more crooks. Just my observation over the years.
The key to the Skiman mod is that it provides support for both cheeks. The round shape of the stock seat puts pressure on the groin while not supporting the cheeks. This takes its toil after a few miles and effects heavier riders quicker. I weigh 200lbs and lack of cushion isn't an issue...
Actually, loosing seat height good. It will allow you to get shorter dog bones to raise the rear if you have long legs. This will improve handling. It will also restore the tendency to slid forward a bit,if you like that.
26,000 miles(about 39,000K) for the valve inspection. No nipples anywhere. Spend some time reading on this site an on the fz1oa site. FZ1OA Message Board - Powered by vBulletin This will help you pick a good used bike. You may have to save a little more to get a good used FZ1. Things aren't...
I did this mod to my stock seat and it not only made for a comfortable ride, but it lowered the seat about 1.5 inches. I needed the height reduction without messing up the handling. It also stopped the tendency to slide into the tank.
Skiman's Seat Mod
FYI. If it would fit the frame, the lower suspension is completely different with an eye instead of a clevis for the lower shock attachment. Bell-cranks instead of dog bones and the rear brake setup is different too. It would be a lot of work with little gain. Just my two cents.
Actually the over population is with us humans. California is becoming one big continuous subdivision. The open spaces that I remember as a kid are gone.
